Right or Wrong to Profit?????

Is it wrong that people are trying to sell their give away bags from the Pirates World End Premiere??? I discovered 1 going for over $700.00, yikes. What's your take on it? I figure the people selling this stuff must not be members of this board because I know we would keep those keep sakes being Disney-nutts.

Re: Right or Wrong to Profit?????

People will always sell things from events such as this. (Remember 50th cupcakes?! ) I'm sure some people waited hours for the premiere to get merchandise, just so they could resell them again.

Re: Right or Wrong to Profit?????

If the bags belong to them they have every right to sell them for whatever they can get.

Now me if I was lucky enough to have one I'd hang onto it for all eternity!!

Re: Right or Wrong to Profit?????

It's a free market society....plus, great way for those other disney nuts to get some loot (albeit in trade for a small fortune, but who am I to judge what other people are willing to spend?).

I haven't let my husband open up the Pirates DS Lite cuz I'm waiting to see what they sell for on Ebay...if it's enough $ he won't get to play with it!! hhahaha actually, I'm just stallling, didn't want to give him the ENTIRE loot bag all at once .....(since I got to go figured it only fair he get the loot)

I checked ebay, cuz after all were else are you going to find this stuff, and while there are several LISTED for $700+ The top BID at the moment seems to be ~$45.

Re: Right or Wrong to Profit?????

Our family has 3 of the goodie bags. Right or wrong....we aren't selling any of our things. We don't have a Nintendo Wii so the POTC game for the Wii, which was one of the goodies, is useless for us. I gave one to a friend and the other I'll give to my sister for Xmas. We'll just hang on to the extra one for now.

Is it right or wrong to sell? I can see both sides of this situation; some people are out specifically to make as much money as possible, and then there are those that the goodie bag does absolutely nothing for them. Not everybody is in to gaming and ball caps. However, other then the Wii POTC game.....we LOVE our goodie bag. I just wish there was a pin that came with it.

Re: Right or Wrong to Profit?????

Supply and demand. If someone pays $700 for it, then it becomes worth that amount. Since everything surrounding DLR is about profit (I mean nothing is free, I'm not DLR bashing) this should be no exception.

Exactly how I feel about it. I also agree with the last part too. I have
received things like that in the past and have sold them cause they didn't really mean anything to me. I was just at the right place at the right time.

Re: Right or Wrong to Profit?????

I got one of the swag bags and wouldn't sell it. But like all gifts, once it's given to the recepient it's theirs to do with as they please.

I just took a quick look at ebay. While some folks have put their bags up with these insane opening bids, there don't seem to be any takes. My guess is that they (1) don't understand how auctions work -- people are looking to bid, it's really a mistake to start out any auction with opening bid that is that high, it removes the fun of bidding which is what auctions are all about (and the buy-it-now price, that's just insane) and (2) they have seriously overestimated the appeal of a mass-produced button and hat <g>. Regular Ebayers know that sellers use the word "rare" the way other people use the word, "the"

While I'm sure after the film opens, there will be more interest, but I think those looking to make up their $1500 ticket donation with a few trinkets are going to be disappointed.

Re: Right or Wrong to Profit?????

I got one of the free pirate mickey ears they were throwing out to the crowd (not a swag bag by any stretch, but still cool), and I would never dream of selling it. I dont' mind those that do, it's a free, and very capitalist country, but you get an amotional attachment to items from a great event like that - years from now they'll still have great memories attached to them.

Re: Right or Wrong to Profit?????

They own it, why shouldn't they sell it? I wouldn't mind having one of the DSes.

Anyone want to part with it?

Re: Right or Wrong to Profit?????

I've heard of worse.
I just got a request in the mail for a Bumper Sticker from the Radio Station I work for. He plans on selling it online in Chicago for $100.

I guess I'm missing out.
