He does look more realistic, but physiologically speaking, based on the shape of his head,he's actually a sperm whale. Blue whales have much more flatter heads.

I like the blue. Thanks for the pics.
Hmmm....if it is Pinocchio that the whale is from, I don't seem to recall him being blue.
Of course it's been a while.
I wonder if they're trying to make him more "pretty" for the little ones? ("Look honey! We're going into the mouth of that pretty, pretty whale!")

This has been a Filmways presentation dahling.
Monstro is neither a sperm whale nor a blue whale. There isn't any species of whale like him. He's a fantasy whale with characteristics of several whale species.
Maybe it's an underlayer for highlights and they still have to the black pass? I hope.
Yeah, paint him black with some cool flames.
I only noticed him last night and all I can say is he is shiny. Looks very good!
How much do we have to pay to get MiceChat Old?
I like the colors.
I think he was always blue though.
yeah he doesn't look to much different me besides being more shiny and clean. monstro looks good!
In the movie, he was black. But maybe the park version was navy blue - who knows. All I do know is that it was in dire need of repainting - I never saw a whale peeling before.
If I had my choice - I'd choose the black or navy blue version - but at least they took the time to 'clean him up'.
Here's a desktop picture I took back in MARCH... looks pretty blue to me (at least not very black at all).
