Just a small random thought I had. When I travel to theme parks out of state, I know they tend to use lead paint unlike California. (Lead paint is banned in California BTW.) I was amazed at how the colors of rides held up to sun, when almost all of our California attractions need constant refreshing to keep the paint looking new and not all faded. I'm not sure how Tokyo does things, but that could be another reason ours looks so much more dirty and weathered.
