    Space Mountain Over The Hill

I have to admit that I had no idea that May 27 was the 30th Anniversary of Space Mountain, until I saw folks walking around in the park with the buttons. Luckily when we went to Space one of the CM's had a few buttons in his jacket so everyone in our group got one.

But, I have to wonder why there wasn't anything special besides this going on. For the 40th Anniversary of POTC they had all these special items out, signings and a banner over the entrance with CM's handing out stickers.

Then here comes Space Mountains 30th and they just give out a button at the entrance. I appreciate it, don't get me wrong ... but compared to other anniversaries of attractions this was kinda low key.

The answer as why why all the fuss of the 40th of Pirates of the Caribbean is simple. There is no Space Mountain film pulling in over $1 billion.

But I sure wish I could have been there for a button.

I didn't get a POTC button, just stickers

But they are pirate stickers. That makes them 88.2% times better than regular stickers.

I totally agree since I'm 32 ... but I just freaked when I saw all the over the hill stuff with the number 30 at the party store. I totally disagree, but thought it might make for a catchy title.

I always thought... jungle, Autopia, Main St Cars, Most Fantasyland rides and the twain get screwed since they share their "Anniversary" the park!

Good point although, it is a direct decedent of the original (same layout). This reminds me of everything that will be turning 30 this year:

    1. Star Wars
    2. Space Mountain (Within two days of each other... coincidence?)
    3. Death of Elvis Presley
    4. Me

That last one makes me the saddest.

Quite a few parts are 30... you can see the old framework style track after the first lift very clearly.

I think people make too big a deal about anniversaries. The ones that should really be celebrated are 5th, 10th, 25th, 50th, and 100th.

    No 34 2/3rds that lasts 18 months into the 36 1/9ths? Darn.

They made a big fuss over the 33th anniversary of Pirates too. They had special CDs and special t-shirts and all kinds of merchandise. They even put together a question and answer session with some of the people who worked on Pirates who were still around. This was long before any thought of a Pirates movie.

They did the same thing for the 30th anniversary of The Haunted Mansion.

I would include the 75th Anniversary as well.
