    Re: Such a crime!

I miss spitting over the side onto guests and no CM would ever stop me.
I love throwing popcorn from the side.

Gee, I wonder if that became a problem.

Wonderful view af the park from the Skyway, over the Pirate ship restaurant in Fantasyland.

    Ah the good old days!!

I could not agree more. Overall, what they did to all of Tomorrowland in the 90's was a crime.

Hello everyone, I am a long time miceage reader, first time mice chatter.

I never rode the skyway as I was 7 when they were closed, and I did not visit Disneyland for the first time until I was 9 or 10. I watched the video on youtube, and I must say that the skyway looks really neat. I enjoyed the view from the air, and in that respect I agree with a lot of you. However, I also agree with Jeronius on the subject of people throwing stuff on to the people below, and revealing too much of the dark rides(showbuilding).

So while I would enjoy getting the chance to view disneyland from the sky, I would not enjoy walking underneath and hoping i will not get hit by something from above.

*sniff* And I miss the Peoplemover too... *sniff* So sad that few ruin it for so many.

It seems to me that the concern of that happening has been just overstated a bit. Visiting and/or working there since '61, I sent a good share of time enjoying the old Tomorrowland underneath those buckets, and I just don't recall that being such a big problem...I was never hit and never saw anyone get hit, which isn't of course to say that it never happened.

    What babies!

I had spit from the Skyway (and PeopleMover) hit me on more than one occaision over the years - - and it was well worth keeping the wonderful rides and paying in a few lugis on the head. Big deal.

One time I raced to the end of the ride and nailed those naughty kids... Other times, I laughed, shrugged and went on Mr. Toad.

The MK Skyway closed very shortly after my brother worked as a Fantasyland CM (primarily on Skyway) in Spring 1999. During his time there, a janitorial CM died when he was accidentally in the path of a "bucket" (my brother hates when I call them 'buckets', but oh well) and after trying to hold on to the bucket while help came, fell. Really sad. My brother came in later that day, and was not working when it happened.

I never rode Skyway at DL, but I certainly miss it at MK.

The Skyway had it's positives and negatives:

    Positives-
    Beautiful skyline
    Relaxing to see entire park
Nice ride to wind down from all the excitement in the park

    Negatives-
    Exposed dark ride building
    People littering during their ride
    Lines haphazardly around park

I personally think that they did the right thing by taking it down. Although it was a nice ride, it caused too many problems.

I liked the skyway but I rarely rode it because I'm scared of heights and even more scared of being up high in a big open space like that.

Maybe you mean 1994? I believe it closed in 94 not 99.

The security nightmare would have been solved if they would actually enforce the rules at the park. If security sees someone throw something from the Skyway, escort them out of the park, no arguments, no questions asked.

    no kidding,

the only time I rode it I spent the entire time curled up and crying I was so scared. I was about 5 maybe 6 years old.

I thought the Tomorrowland station became the Rocket Rods garage. I think part of the reason *may* be the massive equipment required to operate a skyway. To operate a counterweight is required, and those weigh several tons. This equipment may be in the way of modifying the facility to accomodate a future use such as a cafe. Removing said equipment could also require tearing down parts or all of the structure(s). I guess I think there must be a good reason as Pressler didn't turn any of the stations (Disneyland or Magic Kingdom) into retail space.

If you feel bad for Disneyland, feel really bad for the Magic Kingdom. Both stations are larger and more prominent (Tomorrowland station being smack in the middle of the land) with nothing happening.
