    Question Jedi Academy age discrimination?

My 15YO is a HUGE fan of Star Wars. She is a self proclaimed nerd and has been looking forward to the Jedi Academy ever since last Summer when a CM was telling her about it while waiting for fireworks.

Last Month we had a one day trip to the kingdom so she brought her light saber. We went to three different academys and she wasn't picked for any of them. Granted, she looks older for her age but should that matter? Isn't Disneyland for every age of kid? I know this month she is going to want to try again but if its futile, I would like to know ahead of time.

Okay, that was a dual rant/question...

I believe the age cutoff is 12. Or so I am told. If the kids look older, they tend to not get picked.

    Re: Jedi Academy age discrimination?

Okay, found this on the DL website:

"Jedi Training Academy participants will be randomly selected from amongst audience members, aged 4-12, who volunteer to be part of the show. "

Very disappointing. There was never any indication while we were there but we were wondering after watching them just pick children. When she was 12 she looked 15 so I am sure she wouldn't have been picked then either.

Am I alone in my despair? Wouldn't this make sense for older kids since the movies aren't really directed to 4 year olds? Am I just being a protective mother?

I guess it's just the way the cookie crumbles. I know it's a child's dream to fight Darth Vader and Darth Maul, but there is a point in time where things just seem to be very unfair. Heck, I would love to do the Jedi Academy, but I guess Star Tours and I will be together forever.

I think they should have an Adult showing of JTA later on in the day. Let the kids cheer on the parents!

I think the cutoff age is just about right.

My oldest son is 12 but looks older, he's never gotten picked either, but has had to stand by and watch his little brother get picked

While I am normally against Disneyland alienating adults and adolescents with these types of attractions, including the Princess Fantasy Faire, Padawan learners in the story are supposed to begin training at a very early age. So, in this instance, the age restriction actually supports the show.

And the safety of the performers from less-likely-to-follow-instructions teens and adults. The posted age preferences are in place for actual reasons.

This is what I figured the age limit was for.

I've been saying that since last year! We're the ones who grew up with the original trilogy so it would only be fair to let us live out our little nerd dream. There's nothing cooler than being a Jedi!

Exactly. Could you imagine some teenagers going up there to fight Darth Vader and Darth Maul??!! I do believe that some teenagers AND adults would actually hurt these guys.

That makes perfect sense. Disneyland doesn't create rules for no reason.

This age requirement is for the benefit of the greater good, even though a few teenagers or adults may be disapointed. Hopefully the adults impacted will be able to understand that and defer to the greater number of children who benefit from their "loss".
