    Great report, Pezz!

I love it when the Pezzlings make an appearance - they're so cute and they add a great element of humor to your reports.

Can't wait to see the Memorial Day.

Re: Memorial Day Weekend! Long overdue!

    Monday, May 28:

    Memorial Day!

Since this was not a blackout day for SoCal AP's, we had a few more Chatters like DisneyIPresume, MaryAnne in Wndrland, and her hubby Batman show up to taste the Pirate Layer on TSI.

I arrived fashionably late (11:00 or so) and noticed the flag at half mast:

Little did I know that the proper Memorial Day flag etiquette has the flag at half mast until noon and then raised all the way.

Also noticed this happy bunch marching up:

Picked up a FP for Indy and then off to raid the Island!

This pirate was just leaving the queue area when I showed up:

I don't remember seeing him before and didn't get to catch his routine but he slapped my shoulder as he went by. Pirate bonding.

He was replaced by Benicio del Pirate:

From the raft, I could see the rest of our party who had been there for a while:

    Ahoy!

The voyage over, dry land at last!

There is Batman (disguised as DuckMan), MaryAnne in Wndrlnd, Pirate Munkee, and DisneyIPresume. Pirate Munkee had to leave for work soon but was able to stay for an hour or so.

    Through Dead Man's Grotto:

    Over the rickety suspension bridge:

They say no bouncing or swaying but what fun is that?

Pirate Munkee puts the new swabbies to work:

Pump the water out from this guy's boat:

MaryAnne does a soft-shoe across the barrel bridge:

And we hoist a cold one:

    TikiRoomLiz and Purpledove show up:

It's Purpledove's first time on the Island - EVER.

She gets into the golden photo-op:

And this lovely lady showed up to keep things polite:

After thoroughly exploring the area, we headed back to the mainland to get some grub. Today is was the French Market:

That's the Cajun chicken with side salad, mint julep, and apple-filled chocolate dessert thing with a huge pirate coin on top.

    The Bat/Duck in Wndrland couple:

    DisneyIPresume (DIP?) and Purpledove:

    Mmmm good:

The flipside of the coin says "edible". I wasn't about to test this claim.

TkiRoomLiz had gone to get e pretzel for lunch and when she came back we had a good look at her patriotic pins:

And nothing says patriotism like a ride on Big Thunder:

    Possums:

    Hill:

    Goat:

And then on to Fantasyland to check out the newly blue whale:

    And his overbite

There was no line for Teacups, so who could resist?

TkiRoomLiz wisely got a cup of her own.

While the rest of us decided to test the load capacity of another one:

    Our Teacup runneth over:

    Right next door:

    Matterhorn!

This ain't the Tiki Room, Liz!

Then over to the lagoon to check out the Sub progress:

    Sub-Merized!©-PEZZ

Then someone mentioned going on Splash Mountain. We went over to check it out:

FastPass is back but return time is after dark and regular wait time almost an hour...

The only thing for it was to go Single Rider!

MaryAnne was really adamant that she wanted to ride in back where you don't get (too) wet. She got her wish. I rode with some teens and convinced them it was SOOO much better riding in the front. They put me in the back. We all fared rather well and came out dry.

    Oh. Did I say all?

DisneyIPresume sat in the middle and his log got totally drenched. The rest of the people he was with looked just as wet or even worse.

Lucky for us, we were right next to the great candy place, Pooh's Corner! I wanted to try the Flayva of the Month fudge (Snickers- one for $4) and got talked into getting a box of six ($15):

They really had to pull my arm backward on that one. This was taken after we all had a sampling. Best $15 I ever spent.

    Coming up after the break:

Flag Retreat! To DCA - and back again! Maynard Madness!

Almost feels like I was right there and your daughters are absolutely adorable Pezz. Next time we make the trip you guys will have to be our tour giudes on the island.

Hmmm. I also went in for one piece of the snickers fudge when I was there and walked out with a whole box. Didn't hurt my mom's feelings though... she had fudge for days even after us kids got into it. I never did pick a favorite out of the 6 we got... lol

Enjoying the warmth and sunshine of Phoenix between Disney trips.

Perhaps it is sugar-related. Or maybe he's found a way to bottle toddler energy.

Re: Memorial Day Weekend! Long overdue!

Memorial Day was very special because of the great Flag Retreat ceremony held at 4:30. Here is the marching band arriving:

We all stand for the colors and the Servicemen and Women and their families in attendance:

It was very moving as the flags were lowered and folded:

Afterward, we decided to head over to DCA to get our Tower on!
Or should I say - THEY decided to get their Tower on...

    I gratefully declined the invitation.

Some nice merch in the Store of Terror:

Guess what MaryAnne has her eye on.

And this t-shirt design was way funny:

Almost forgot the Congress of the Cons:

    A Congress of One!

On to Monsters, Inc. - where MaryAnne pulled out her monster Rocky Road Marshmallow Thing On-A-Stick!

And then over to the wine bar for a more civilized refreshment:

These are both Echelon Pinot Noir (2004?) and - went very well with the fudge I got at D-Land! I have to thank mcow1 for introducing me to the delights of Pinot and chocolate!

Properly emboldened, we bravely face the most terrifying land of all:

    BUGLAND!

    TikiRoomLiz tests the water:

    Not too bad she says!

Remember when there was a big green tractor around here?

Strap yourselves in for the wildest ride in...

    the back yard?

    Very scary stuff:

TikiRoomLiz had never been to these hostile parts and was especially thrilled with this ride:

MaryAnne tries to rub the 4 leaf clover for luck:

And then we all get into a Fun Flyer and take to the air:

Yes, we borrowed a page from the Single Rider book and the 5 of us got into one Flyer:

TRL had also never been to the other Pooh Show:

It's tough to be a bug! Especially with a big dung ball as a house furnishing...
MaryAnne and Bat/Duck Man stayed behind because they are allergic.

And the intrepid wanderers track back to the original Park:

Outside the Opera House, it's Great Moments with Mr. Maynard:

MaryAnne had hiccups and this was not helping:

Learn to pick a stroller or two:

Maynard showed us around the lobby of the Opera House in a decidedly off-center look at the displays and had us all in stitches.

    Speaking of stitches!
MaryAnne had to show us this dress in the window on Main St:

It is green and has a necklace with a crown above a little frog. She was very excited about this being a Frog Prince dress.
And would not leave until I took a picture.
    So there it is.

And then it was time to use those FastPasses I forgot to tell you about:

    Space!

Who needs the RHCP when you have a rockin' group like this!

MaryAnne caught in mid-clap looks like she is either pulling a Johnny Sako or showing her level of enthusiasm. But really she liked it. And her hiccups were gone.

That was pretty much the end of the line for us. I gave my FP for Indy to MAiW and Bat/Duck Man (maybe we should call him Stanley?) to work out how to talk their way on or fight over who got to use it. You could say the Pirate Layer ate my FastPass!

This was a big weekend and it was great to see everyone and hang out like that. I am so glad to be part of this community and know so many terrific folks.

I would just like to end this by saying that this is post number 999 for me. And I feel like retiring.

No wait! I feel like I am just getting started!

That's what I meant to say.

Much love and thanks for reading!
