Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage to remain open 2.5 hours after park closing this summer

According to a Disney press release, the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage will remain open for an additional 2.5 hours after park closing throughout summer.

On average, this additional 2.5 hours of operation will result in the Subs being open for a virtual "8th day" of operation to park guests.

Also, Disney will be offering Nemo-related "games" including a "Hidden Nemo" game, special food offerings including snack packs with cheddar fish crackers mixed with an “East Australian Crunch,” popcorn, cupcakes, and frozen apple juice.

    Here's the full press release:

ANAHEIM, Calif. – June 6, 2007 – In the spirit of Walt Disney’s renowned ability to create magic, the Disneyland Resort is sprinkling some pixie dust on the calendar and virtually creating an “8th Day” in its operating week in anticipation of high demand for the new Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage attraction, which resurfaces June 11 in the Tomorrowland Lagoon. The subs return as part of the ongoing Year of a Million Dreams celebration at the Disneyland Resort.

Starting June 11, the day the subs resurface, guests will be allowed to join the queue until official park closing and the subs will continue their voyages to find Nemo for up to 2 1/2 hours after park closing.

“We’re very excited to bring back the classic subs attraction, which we know will appeal to guests of all ages,” said Ed Grier, President, Disneyland Resort. “In order to meet what we believe will be very high demand, we’re virtually adding an ‘8th day’ to the week.”

The magic continues with a focus on Disney-style service. While guests are anticipating their underwater adventure, they’ll be invited to “Find Nemo” while voyaging through the queue. Armed with a special Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage activity guide, they will search out “Hidden Nemos” along the way and play other Nemo-related games.

And when the hunger for the adventure becomes too much, fun Nemo-themed food creations, such as a snack pack with cheddar fish crackers mixed with an “East Australian Crunch,” popcorn buckets, cupcakes, frozen apple juice and more, will be available for purchase in ports along the way and throughout Tomorrowland.

Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage takes its inspiration from two over-the-top entertainment experiences – the worldwide smash hit Disney·Pixar motion picture Finding Nemo and the Resort’s fondly remembered classic Submarine Voyage attraction that opened in 1959 and retired in 1998.

During the summer months, on average, Disneyland Park operates 16 hours per day. With 2 1/2 additional hours of potential operation each night (17 1/2 hours total per week) for the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, Disneyland is offering guests more than an extra day each week to enjoy the attraction.

Highlighted this summer by the Grand Opening of the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, the Year of a Million Dreams celebration at Disneyland Resort features a full lineup of immersive character encounters and other “Dream-Come-True” experiences. There are opportunities for guests to meet and play with Disney Princesses at Disney Princess Fantasy Faire, join a band of pirates at Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, duel with Darth Vader at Jedi Training Academy, or show some school spirit in the High School Musical Pep Rally.

I feel so sorry for the FNSV cast members... what a horrible shift to have. Cuz they don't just leave when the 2.5 hours are over. They still have to close out the ride and do all the necessary things before they can leave. Which means, they won't be leaving until way after 3:30am. OY! horrible!!!

While I applaud Disney's attempt to increase ridership for Nemo Subs, they seem to be missing that this is a family ride! Kids are going to be asleep at that time of night. Certainly parents won't have the energy to be at Disneyland all day only to wait in a line until 2:30 in the morning! Now teenagers could do it, but Nemo is not really a teenager attraction. I love riding Space Mountain late at night, but waiting a couple hours to ride Nemo is not going to happen.

Bottom line, after this first month of operation, people will evaporate out of Nemo's line at closing time. I am sure that by 1 AM there will only be a handful of people left.

Oh, I think they will be able to find enough crazy people, especially ones who would prefer the late hour in exchange for standing in line for longer hours during the day.

Maybe they could call the hAPpy hours ...

AN interesting question is what they will need to do about Security to keep guests from wandering into other lands during and on the way out and whether they will keep any things on Main Street open to capture some additional business as people stagger out.

And will this leave them enough Main Street hours for stocking and cleaning if it's still being used as an exit path that late.

Will the Tomorrowland stores remain open as well, or will there be security folk there ready to escort the guests straight from the exit to the main gate? Also, will the trams continue running that late, or will they make the people walk back to the M&F structure and other lots?

If the lines are still 4 hours long at midnight, are they still going to close with people in line?

I thought the trams ran until about 3am.

Trams run until one hour after DTD closes. Half hour after park closing on Grad Nites.

It says up to 2 1/2 hours, so my guess is that if there aren't any people there to give rides to, they might close it before the 2.5 hours is up.

MS store CM's get this luck all the time. And most likely, they will be extended now for this too.

What's interesting, and something I just noticed, is this..

Disney does this for every attraction in the park. Guests can join the queue up until the final moment before the park closes. Then, the CMs are required to cycle out the queue and then they're done for the day. So really, nothing is different with the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage - except - if the queue has a posted waittime of over 2.5 hours at park closing, it sounds like the guests who would be boarding after 2.5 hours won't be boarding at all.

So... I'm guessing that if you decide to hop in line at the Submarine Voyage at midnight during the summer and the waittime is still 3 hours long - don't bother... because from the way this press release is worded - you won't be getting on.

I do applaud Disney, however, for having snacks, games, and other activities available for those standing in the queue. Good show.

I see your point but is the policy as applied now an official and announced one or a practice that is subject to change ?

This is possibly different in that is is announced and more-or-less guaranteed by making it public knowledge.

You know, it's interesting that you say that they keep every ride open until park closing, because I've seen a couple rides (mainly Peter Pan that I recall) having CMs cut off the line anywhere between 5 and 15 minute before park closing.

    News to me!

There I was somewhere West of Tomorrowland
Flying through the stars just like
    Peter Pan
I said...Dang this looks too good to be true...

It's a nice day when you wake up in
