Next Ride At Disneyland - Little Mermaid?

Tony Baxtor worked soo hard to get the subs back. While doing this, he apparently created an awesome story for a little mermaid ride. Unfortunetly, they said the story wouldn't work in tommarowland (nemo does?) and his plans for a mermaid ride was later scrapped for what today is called The Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage.

So what's to happen with plans for this awesome new Mermaid ride that Baxtor created. Well it appears to be in light "blue sky" mode right now, preferably for Fantasyland.

"When asked which movie he'd like to see adapted for an attraction, he mentioned The Incredibles (The POD's planned for people mover?), but Grier cited his personal favorite as The Little Mermaid, previewed last year on the Platinum Edition DVD in an outstanding computer simulation. "The Little Mermaid continues to be a Disney classic," he said during a roundtable talk at Main Street's Opera House, noting that the animated version of the Hans Christian Andersen story has been adapted for Broadway. "[Imagineer] Tony Baxter has done great work [on a Little Mermaid-based attraction]. Have we officially drawn plans up? No, we haven't. But I think we can one day."
So who knows. Maybe some day we can finaly see a Mermaid ride (probably in the old motorboat cruise area)

As much as I would love it for Disneyland's Fantasyland...I think DCA could vitally use a new-age classic attraction like The Little Mermaid.

If they could do it like the simulation on the DVD it would be an awsome addition to the park.

The simulation on the DVD is awesome so I fully support this. It would be cool if it was an extended version of the DVD simulation though, one that ran around 8-10 minutes long and had more Ursulla.

I would love a little mermaid ride, my boyfriend would be so excited, that is his favorite Disney movie, if not favorite movie of all. Why don't they do this ride in the Big thunder ranch area and annex it over to Fantasyland. Many people would be happy with that, doing something with dead space!

Because the entrance to BTR is clearly in Frontierland, unless they added a whole new entrance which would be hard to make a path back there. And they also still do use parts of BTR for special events sometimes. I think, but am not quite sure, that the ride was going to be around the old motor boat lagoon/sub area.

Maybe they should keep the idea in reserve. Who knows what the 3rd gate's theme will be when they get around to it. Maybe they could make an area that they could fit the ride into and make Little Mermaid the crown jewel of a new land in a new park.

The way Ed worded that was pretty slick. "I think we can one day." Basically saying it is something we are actually considering but it isn't anywhere near the point where we could tell you anything even semi-solid about it. It's most likely one of many ideas they are considering in a number of formats for who knows where. I am incredibly excited that it is even under consideration at any level though. It is my favorite of the movies as well.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter
