Did I miss the BIG news? (Bob Weis back at WDI)

... Or has no one mentioned a thing about the man who has been entrusted with making DCA into the great park we all (OK, most of us) know it can be ... in a blast from the past, Bob Weis is back at WDI and has been named the chief creative exec for the park, while Celebrity Imagineer Tony Baxter will be leading DL development.

Maybe Al will have this in his next update?

Or did I miss it and it's buried under one of the 532 submarine threads?

Re: Did I miss the BIG news?

Weis' resume includes MGM and Disney's America, and until recently he's been designing some CSI exhibit and an attraction at NBC's Rockefeller Center complex. I have faith, but I'll need to really be impressed.

Tony at DL is a no-brainer, at least until WDW reshuffles their presidents.

Do you guys think Imagineering is coming back strong? You think it's worth actually attempting to get a job there and maybe even get to keep that job?

I spoke to Mr. Baxter a few weeks back and he said the tide is turning. Definitely try to work there if you can.

A hearty welcome home to Mr. Weis!

It definitely sounds like a good wind blowing in WDI's direction. And this only makes me want to work there even more than I already do.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

I don't know how much of a chance I'd have with no experience and only a lot of great ideas? I'm just like everyone else out here.
Nice to dream though. I wouldn't mind a chance.

Weis really did some amazing work at WDI.

It was only after he left that the Disney-MGM Studios lost focus and became the mess it is now.

I'm also a huge fan of Disney's America and really feel sad it wasn't built.
But all those wealthy Virginians didn't want it built in their backyard to 'protect' the local battlefields. I guess that's why there's subdivisions, strip centers and, yes, a SuperWalmart on the site today ... but I digress (early and often).

A lot of attention on this site goes to Westcot when talk turns to parks Disney didn't build, but Bob's design for the Disney-MGM Studios Europe was just amazing (no, this isn't what passes for a second-gate there now), and it's a real shame it wasn't built. If it had been you'd have the world's best movie studio theme park next to the world's most beautiful and detailed MK.

And the work Bob did on Top of the Rock was top-notch. Got to experience it just weeks after it debuted in 2005.

Well, I don't see one having anything to do with another, sadly. Jim MacPhee for Brad Rex is a huge change for the better at Epcot. And Phil Holmes sees his days coming to an end ... there's only so long you can hang on when you're running a place into utter decay and boredom.

But that won't effect WDI ... and after the last restructuring Eric Jacobson (a Tom Fitzgerald minion) was handed creative control over the MK, Epcot and Disney-MGM Studios (only DAK with Joe Rohde is out of his realm of influence) and Eric, like Tom, have been behind many of the MK disasters of late ... so while I'm VERY optimistic that DCA and DL (and DAK) are in good hands, I'm much less sure about the future of WDW's older parks.

I guess time will tell ...

Tony should focus on WDW now.
