Disney does own some random apt complexes and land that just isnt obvious. Including where that Dennys is on the corner. Move one over and youll see dolphin cove (disney doesnt own that) but move 1 more over, Disney DOES own those. Quite a few of those places have "month to month" leases. So disney actually highers an outside vending company to run them until they finally decide what to do.

If the city does own Garden Walk, i think its only a matter of time before disney will scoop it up. Obviously the planning has stalled, and develpers have been arguing over it since 2003. Giving to disney would be wise. A full fledged 3rd park (in maybe 10 years) would be a great great great boon to the city.

But I do agree that this new ruling is not a very good way to go. It could give WAY too much power to those who have money to the loss of those of us (me) who don't. While I'd like to see a third gate at Disneyland, I'd like it to be done it the appropriate, democratic way: endless meetings with much debate.

Umm, do we even know what these houses look like that these people were trying to keep? Were they really nice houses, or were they trailer trash? I'm not trying to offend you by any means if you live in an RV, but there are indeed people who ARE trailer trash. I'd like to see some photos of the land that was in question with this supreme court thing.

Don't get me wrong here. I am an extremely patriotic individual, but this latest ruling by the supreme court is downright scary. If the local government can show ANY economic gain from allowing company X to build on your land then they can take your home. This is just wrong.

Canada's starting to look pretty good right now.
Go to Canada, see if I care. No one is going to take your land. Your individual sate has laws to protect your home. Go look into it. And if your state doesn't already have laws to protect it, your state will surely have laws soon.

If you live in a slum, then you should be worried. I'm sorry, but that's progress.

As for the eminent domain ruling: I expect to see a lot of movement among the several states to pass state-level laws to deal with this.
Yeah agree. DCA didn't go over well. First things first.

I believe that property is one of the last low income housing developments in the area. In order for the ity to be convinced that it should go, they would ave to come up with plans of developing another area for its replacement. The idea of removing some oof the land around the third gate including the one south of it has been suggested before. Disney even owns a couple parcels in the southern most corner of that large block. One of them was actually turned into a fastfood restuarant. (not sure if Disney decided to just sell it of or rent the land, just like it does with other lands they own) The city does not want to loose the federal funds that they recieved from having low income housing. I do think that they should reconsider and relocate them outside the resort arae though. As for the third gate, i see that park starting construction sooner than many think. Disney will not be waiting for DCA to be built out. They need to have the flexibility to extend and continue to develop DCA when the new park opens. After seeing the large amounts of foreign tourist that are still enterested in the resort they would most likely try to continue the momentum. i believe construction/announceement will most likely start after the second phase of DTD is done and DCA/Disneyland recieve their next large ticket attractions in 2010.

Eminent domain is a scary concept, but like taxes, ignorant hick leadership and speed limits, it's just one of the prices we have to pay to live in a free country. It is unfortunate that the government feels that it is okay to give up a persons right to land for the sake of the corportations, but that's just the way it is. Really, the government is in control of all of the land we live on, and we really just pay rent to live there, no one can truely own land in a modern country (save a monarch). Cities will have to do what is in the best interests of their residents and economy. The real issue is not why or for what the government takes the land, really it is the definition of fair market value. What is the price of a person's home? This is the issue that needs to be revised. It is the right of the government to take your land, however, it is your right to get fairly compensated for it.

Personally, I think Disney should accept that Disneyland is landlocked and concentrate more on working with what they have (i.e. improving Disneyland) rather than worry about being able to charge another $56 with a new gate. Can you imagine what Disneyland would look like today if the money for DCA was spent improving Disneyland? If they had sunk all that DCA money into a New Tomorrowland, Disneyland would be the crown jewel of the Disney parks again. Oh Matt Ouimet, where were you 8 years ago? I guess we should count ourselves fortunate to have him at all.

This is an EXTREMELY GOOD POINT!!! Disney already has some big problems to solve with its two california parks. (tomorrowland mess, DCA, ETC.) I mean, don't get me wrong, i would LOVE another disneyland park, but realistically, it won't be another Disneyland. How about taking some of that money and getting the peoplemover running again? or better yet get a few more E Tickets in DCA!

Re: Good News for Third gate bad news for land owners?

Just an idea, perhaps with opening a 3rd park, this time one
that is NOT overseen by Scrooge and a Run To Failure and Build
on the Cheap management style, a NEW park, one that could
be the envy of Tokoyo Disney Sea, could be built.

Once the new spectacular New Park (3rd gate) is open, Disney could
"put down and out" the disasterous DCA (2nd gate), and do some major bulldozing
and Massive Imagineering (Closing it for a couple years). Then to create a park that would really shine in the Disney Empire and celebrate another New Opening!

    How about that!!!???!!!!

There is clearly no intention of closing DCA to bulldoze it...since they are spending millions this fall to redo Hollywood Pictures Backlot and millions more next spring to redo Paradise Pier when Screamin' (finally!) and Madness close.

Hmmm Screamin! closing... not sure on that but makes me sad if true. Anaheim has been doing ALOT of cleaning up around here building in the slums for grand new fabulous and yes pricey homes and as we like to call them Apartment Homes. Which are just pricey apartments. Which I am looking into when they finish! My grandparents in Florida had there home taken away from them which was gorgeous near a mini pond/ lake to mak eway for (drum roll please...) a freeway!

So it can happen! I am amazed Disney doesnt own the land that my office is sitting on now. I am within walking distance of Garden Walk (opening 2003 or 2007) LOL. A 3rd gate is not priority also look at how long it took for a 2nd gate to get built down here. Another 50 years anyone?

How much will you pay for your "I was there on the 100th!" pin on Ebay? LOL

I don't think there are any houses in the red area. Looking at the picture it looks like that's the area between Katella and Disney Way. There are hotels, resturants and a small strip mall there. The right half used to be Musicland (I think that was the name) which was a big church. At least in this area there are only businesses and no residential housing.
