What was so wrong about LightMagic?

I never did get to see the disaster but I was just wondering what exactly was so wrong with the show? They certainly went to a lot of effort to make it an immersive experience throughout the park with all the light towers and also redoing the plaza leading up to Small World. Was it just that the technology hadn't been worked out or was it the show itself? I know the AP preview was a disaster but it just sounds like they hadn't worked out all the bugs at that point. With the bugs worked out what was so terrible about it?

Or was it just doomed from the start since it had the mantle of the MSEP's replacement?

thats basically it. It followed electrical parade which was very heavily popular and alot of pissed off people to see it go. Naturally no one took a liking to its follower

Ah...I remember Light Magic. It was supposed to be immersive...but in reality, not so much.

It was little elf kids dancing River Dance. After the River Dance craze had come and gone. Thankfully, Light Magic has also come and gone.

It was just too dang creepy. The fairy dancers, especially the males, were what made it the creepiest. They had these bizarre masks with long noses that curved up and it was the most un-Disney thing I've ever seen. Almost like they came right out of a horror movie.

The video they played in the middle of it was too much like a religious commercial. It was a bunch of kids running in slow motion over a grassy knoll smiling and clean and holding hands like little stepford kids. It was just plain sad. No one could relate to it.

The topper was seeing all the characters step out of trees in their pajamas. Rediculous!

Six things...

1. It was a parede that wasn't! (as Steve said)

2. A bunch of elfs (not even all that good looking IMHO) just dancing around was not that entertaining.

3. Another movie on the stages, not all that entertaining (again IMHO)

4. Who needs River Dance on Main Street USA?

5. Very, very bad traffic flow after the shows.

6. It cut the park in half for most of the evening, there was no going anywhere until after the last show of the evening.

I started to write that there were just two things wrong, but the list grew. I could probably go on, but I decided to just stop at six.

The performers were great, the material just sucked!

For a show that replaced our beloved Electrical Parade, it was a disaster.

Like many have said, it's NOT a Parade. The entertainment division even coined a new word for this: "STREET"tacular. Yes. You read correctly.

Three massive floats would travel down the parade for two stops. One at Main Street and the other at Small World Mall. Nothing else in between.

The music was electronic riverdance and the song was the annoying "Dream your Dreams Forever" (then repeat that over and over).

The pixies were freaky. I was shocked when I found a friend of mine told me that she was a pixie. I wanted to hit her. (but I didn't).

Disney characters running out in their pajamas was cute, that's all that happens. They run out and then dance in front of you. They all have their sections to stay in so what you see is what you get. If you wanted to have Scrooge McDuck in your section, and you see him across the way... you're screwed.

worst crime of all: For a show with "Light" in the title, it was a very dark show. As in... there were hardly any lights at all! I wanted to go "wow, that's a lot of lights!" but never did the thought even cross my mind. (not once did I even say "wow, that's at least one good light" either)

It was just UGLY. It was DARK. It was SCARY. It was.... 'FAIRY' BAD. It was LIGHT MAGIC.

Those pixie/fairy things rank right up there with mimes. Very very creepy!

Main Street Electrical Parade = Bob Barker

Light Magic = Whoever replaces Bob Barker

The show was just too "girlish." I can see the little girls getting into the pixie thing and fairy dust, but not little boys. I will admit the music was beautifully written and I wish they could have done something else with it. And, the dancers did NOT step dance. I remember watching them do it and knew it was fake. But of course, we're tourists, what do we know? But I honestly think Disney let the APs win. Disney could've drastically improved the show, maybe put it on stage in the Fantasyland Theatre, and change the unorgainized choreography, but keep the music. But Disney instead took the AP approach and closed the show because of how unpopular it was to THEM. Shame.

i remember light magic being just like , the poor mans Electric parade , lot's of "cutting edge" fiber optics that didn't really look that cool unless you were REALLY close to the floats.
