    Talking Above and Beyond

Just wanted to start a thread to give credit to those who went above and beyond. You may have meant to walk in but you may not have actually walked in to City Hall and did a compliment for them. I could say "recent" but honestly not everyone lives 3 blocks from the park so "recent" would be more or less within the past year. No need for names, who knows the CM might end up reading it on here. I've got 2

Thunder Mountain- little girl comes up the exit with severe burn scars on her face and arms. She's tiny and completely terrified of being in public. Everywhere she goes everyone stares at her. A very large CM, huge guy, turns around and says "don't worry I got this" and then bends down, gives her a hug. He stands up facing her and blocks her from everyones view. When the train comes in he makes a point of keeping away people's prying eyes. He escorted her to her row, helped her in, and called her princess, that really made her mom cry. I don't know if he ever got a compliment for that but he definitely deserved it. I did what I could but I worked there at the time so I couldn't put anything in. That little girl was so sweet, made the whole crew cry to see that.

Jungle Cruise- At the beginning of last summer one of the Skips decided to start collecting languages from the many international tourists who visited the park. He kept a book, different ways to say hello, goodbye, thank you, happy birthday you know usual everyday phrases. For the foreign tourists who only knew a little bit of English this meant the world to them. Likewise for everyone else it was amazing to see him flip through a book and sing happy birthday to a little boy in Turkish, then German, and then Japanese. I was on that boat. By the end of the summer he could say hello in several languages without even looking them up. When I last saw him he was somewhere in the neighborhood of 75 different languages. It's amazing how many people visit from ALL OVER THE WORLD. To my knowledge he is no longer at Jungle but hopefully he passed on a copy of that book. I would hate to think he passed up a souvenir but at the same time it would be something cool to pass on.

I'm sure there are other stories out there. I used to frequent this site as a guest, finally ended up joining. Personally I'm tired of just reading complaints and criticisms of the park... good things happen too, and sometimes people do go above and beyond the norm.

Very, VERY cool. Cast members like these are the true heart of Disneyland, and I highly doubt they receive the praise they truly deserve. If anyone has made someone's day in the park by doing something like this and is now reading this thread, thank you.

    Re: Above and Beyond

Thank you for starting this thread. So many of the Cast Members really do amazing jobs. Last year we rode Pirates the day after it reopened. Record breaking crowds must have been keeping the Load Dock CMs frantically busy. My 9 at the time sister-in-law didn't want to ride and we were having some trouble convincing her that she needed to step through the boat to get out of it. She thought we were trying to trick her into riding it. A CM came up to our row on the exit side and held his hand out and promised her it would be ok. She ended up starting across the boat and then promptly sitting down and telling the CM just send it before I change my mind, which he did grinning from ear to ear. As we came back to exit our boats after the ride, he singled her out and helped her out of the boat, asking if she had a good time and enjoyed herself. Called her a princess as well. It amazed us that on a day with so many people pumped through that ride that he would remember her like that and care to take the time to talk to her after the ride.

Yes, many of the Cast are exceptional people and they deserve all the praise in the world the hard work and the care and love they put into their jobs. From the simplest smile to making a girl's ride on Thunder Mountain simply magical. Thank you Cast Members.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter
