Well "children of all ages" is a fairly common saying meaning that we can all be children no matter what our age. I believe it is a direct quote from Walt Disney although I can't specifically find it.

"Children of all ages" is a phrase originated by P.T. Barnum.

Mr. Disney's carefully-chosen words state that there is innocence in all of us and that, in his work, he tries to reach and speak to that innocence... "showing it the joy of living", "that laughter is healthy", and "that the human species, although happily ridiculous at times, is still reaching for the stars."

I can't disagree with that. And I never thought that Disney coined the phrase, just that he used it in reference to Disneyland.

Disneyland is for EVERYONE - parents, children, single people, the young, the old.....

Again, I feel that my comments on the parent child relationship are being ignored.

I'm going to close my own viewpoints with a quote by Walt:

"Mickey Mouse is, to me, a symbol of independence. He was a means to an end."

Mickey Mouse, at his absolute core, is an idea. He is a representation of all that was good to Walt Disney, and for that matter, to the world. In this statue Walt is holding hands with his alter ego, his other self, and his greatest personal success, cementing how close his connection is with this idea for all the world to see. I don't see Mickey depicted as a juvenile child, I see him depicted as accurately as he possibly could be: holding hands with Walt Disney.

I mentioned the fact that the ice cream cone probably did unfairly prejudice my thoughts about the statue. But, there is still the plaque on the pedestal that is informing that interpretation. I would be much less disturbed by the monument, if a different quotation was chosen.

The obvious choice to me is, "Disneyland will never be completed as long as there is imagination left in the world."

It's so important to the legacy of the founder that Disneyland continue to be viewed as a living, growing thing. And, the sentiment about imaginaton being left in the world really does deserve a monument.

Thank you. I am in full agreement.

Right there with ya on that! This is one of the main points that seems to have been completely ignored by the OP.

The statue is one of my favorite things in the park. I love anything with Walt and Mickey together. There's a really pretty figurine I saw the other day in DCA of Mickey painting a self portrait of himself, but when you look at the mirror he's looking into, it's Walt's face. I thought that was really neat.

My good man, I must take pause for a moment due to the fact that your opinion regarding this matter is in no matter of harmony with my own. Primarily, I do not believe that, in depicting Mickey and Walt as such in the Partners Monument, those in a position of power have instituted the statue in such a way that shows a "lack of understanding" about Disneyland's true texture.

Mr. Disney--and, as he passed away years ago and remains so, unless you pay any heed to the silly prattle regarding his solidification in a large quantity of ice, I do not wish to speak for him or even examine his meanings in any prolonged depth--wished his park to be for all ages; not merely an attraction appealing to the young among us, but a spectacle that would catch the eye of any individual, no matter the age, gender, or any other propensities. In depicting Mickey and Walt holding hands, the aforementioned statue remains true to Walt's vision.

The first definition for "partner" in the dictionary is as follows:

One that is united or associated with another or others in an activity or a sphere of common interest, especially:
    1. A member of a business partnership.
Surely that fits the relationship between Mickey and Walt, does it not? Mickey was very much an engine in the economic development and prosperity of the Disney company and brand, and as such he and Walt were partners. As to them being depicted holding hands, well... as Mickey is very much a mouse, and a cartoon mouse at that, and as neither I nor you (as far as I know) are experts in the field of cartoon mouse-human partner relationships, the hand-holding is as appropriate as it could be. I fear that, in actuality, it is you who does not understand the true meaning of the statue, as you are constantly trying to ascribe to it certain qualities that exist in the outside world and not the fantasy world that exists within the berm.

    Dearest Regards,
    The International
