Tomorrowland Terrace should play area specific music, NOT Avril Lavigne

The last few times I've been waiting in line for Finding Nemo at midnight the Tomorrowland Terrace is blasting pop hits such as Rhiana, Avril Lavigne, and some kind of Axel's theme remix that is beyond bad I want to puke.

Should the Tomorrowland Terrace play this music or instead play area specific Tomorrowland themed peices? I'd just play the area music or Finding Nemo tracks in honor of the new attraction. Anything is better than the pop trash they play now.

I never understood why Tomorrowland was the place youngsters deemed "hip" among all the lands in Disneyland. I've heard the same music tracks I've heard at Magic Mountain blasting from the Terrace before. Rhiana and their ilk are fine for KIIS FM and Six Flags the like, but not Tomorrowland. It's bad show.

    What do you think?

Yes, music from the Outside World (contemporary reality) does take a person out of Disneyland.

Don't get me wrong. I can enjoy an Avril Lavigne or Rhiana song as a sort of guilty pleasure, but I just don't think it's appropriate for Disneyland. We're approaching "If it's good enough for Six Flags" territory. They always say it's all in the details. That's what I'm getting at here.

Well, this subject is kind of complicated, but I'm with you.

Har har, see how I slipped those in there? But seriously, I think they should play futuristic/spaced theme music and nothing else.

Sorry, I wouldn't be standing in line for Nemo in the first place mainly because of the wait but now that you mention it the music would also play a factor. Didn't the Marines use pop music as "psychological bombardment". On a more serious note, what CAN you play that would reflect the "future" theme? Since the 98 refurb they've always had cheap bands play rip-offs of current rock/pop hits.

98? They've had pop cover bands for longer than that. I remember stuff like that in the 80s, maybe earlier. In fact, definitely earlier. I remember disco being a big thing at Disneyland.

    The key word is midnight...

Are they playing it through the day as well? that would be the acid test.

They only do the music at night. And in a world of the future, there would be local bands and music and concerts in public places. Personally, I think it works. It keeps teenagers happy and occupied instead of running around the park throwing things at other guests and lends some vibrancy and color to an otherwise rather dead area of the park.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

I see no problem with it. I enjoy that music, and it's the only part of Disneyland that I like to eat in, with the exception of NOS because of the music!

haha yeah teenagers are mindless zombies and their thirst to annoy to annoy other guests can only be overcome by forcing them into a trance with pop music

Popular music of the day has been playing at the TT at least since the new Tomorrowland in 1967. I don't see any reason why they should change that tradition now.

They should import the soundtrack from Tokyo Tomorrowland - total Esquevil Moogfest - it's a cool retro-future that would fit in with all the Shag elements finding their way into the park.

I just re-read your post again and now have a question for you. Are you talking about area music being piped in via the sound system through out Tomorrowland, or are you talking about cover bands playing at the TT?

If you are talking about the area sound system then I agree with you they shouldn't be playing pop hits on that. I'd rather hear A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow or Miracles from Molecules.

Some music from the outside world is rather decent, for example when the swing bands play at the pavilion, before the show they have some Frank Sinatra playing. As for the crappy pop they play at the Terrace, they should get rid of that pronto
