Re: What is your favorite non DLR hotel in Anaheim?

Staying at Candy Cane Inn during next trip. Mainly cause it ranked #1 for Anaheim hotels on tripadvisor.com

Stayed at the Doubletrees and Hyatt and recommend them both. We usually buy our tickets through AAA so parking at the resort is included.

Never NEVER stay at the Alamo. We did a spur of the moment trip and bought the cheapest thing. Wrote a review(Jun 29, 2006)

Re: What is your favorite non DLR hotel in Anaheim?

I've stayed a week at the Ramada Maingate which I really liked (although the room would be small for more than two people OR for people who plan on spending a lot of time in the room).

I've stayed two separate weeks at the Comfort Inn & Suites and I also enjoyed by experience there as well. Nice rooms, but a bit out of the way of the park. It does have an ART bus stop right at it so no real walking to a stop is required. ART buses are't great, but you probably have to use one if you stay at most hotels in the area. The good thing about this hotel is that you are the first stop on the route and never have a problem getting a seat. By the next stop (Holiday Inn), it over-flows and often requires them to leave people behind in the morning.

Next up for me is the HoJo...

For us, many of the "budget" good neighbor hotels weren't an option because we have five people in our party (2 adults and 3 kids) and wouldn't let you put 5 in a room (I believe Jolly Roger and Candy Cane are two that come to mind). With the Fairfield, having the hide a bed chair was a great find. We don't have to bother with paying for and making room for a roll a way bed or making the kids draw straws for sleeping on the floor. The room accommodates 5 nicely. I also liked the Disney themeing. Nothing big, but a little something extra to add to the atmosphere of the trip.

The Candy Cane will let you have 5 in a Deluxe room , vs. a standard room. It's 10/day more usually. They bring in a roll away.

Well, it has been about 5 years since I've stayed there.

But I did stay at the Jolly Roger recently and I would rather sleep in my car than stay at that place again. Awful!

The Apollo Inn. Ooops, I'm sorry they tore this place down years ago.
Heheh. Check out the Postcards Of The Past section of my site to see how many of the old motels around Disneyland looked back in the day.

Love the Alpine Inn. Inexpensive, clean, and quiet. Right next to DLR.

I'm pretty sure Residence Inn has their own shuttle and free breakfast. They're on Clementine.

    We've liked:

Desert Palms (stayed Dec. 06, after an extensive remodel)
    Sheraton (gorgeous!)
HoJo (have stayed many times and it's consistently good)
    Park Place Inn
The Coast Anaheim (now it's another Sheraton)

    Didn't like:
Desert Inn (dirty, gross pool and breakfast)
Hawthorne Suites (our furniture was broken and was dangerous in two rooms!)

I can't remember what hotel we stayed at for the 50th, but I think it was Castle Inn and it was just eh. Nowhere I'd want to stay with my family, but our suite (really just two adjoined rooms with one bathroom) was huge.

Re: What is your favorite non DLR hotel in Anaheim?

This past trip, I stayed at the Candy Cane Inn for one night (then to the Simi Valley for a wedding), the Ayres for one night, and back to CCI for 2 more nights.

I very much liked that CCI had free wireless in the room, and that made a big difference - enough so that I shortened my stay at the Ayres Anaheim (which I think is a wonderful hotel, but no shuttle to DL and wireless does cost) and went back to the CCI for my last 2 nights. It made it much more convenient for me, in that I could just walk back to the hotel as needed - and I do need to work some when I'm away. So having the wireless was terrific. The Ayres does have a hot breakfast, but the CCI has more fruit (and I like having bananas/apples, etc.)

I would stay at either again (I very much like the Ayres as well, it looks just as new as it did when I stayed in 2001), but I did let the Ayres Anaheim know in a comment form that they emailed me that I'd probably stay at the CCI again unless they changed the shuttle/wireless - at least one of them! I was suprised at how much I liked the CCI, even though it is a motel style hotel.
