On the 17th vs. 18th thing. Actual historical dates and the celebrations of the events that supposedly took place on those dates are frequently at odds. Jesus wasn't born on December 25th. We celebrate Lincoln's birthday on a different day than the real one. And so on.

The Haunted Mansion officially opened to the public on August 12, 1969, and NOT on August 9th, as virtually all sources tell you.

In the end, it just means you can have TWO parties if you want.

Technically, I would say that the 18th is the proper day. It was just supposed to be open for special people, like a soft opening. You wouldn't consider those couple of days FNSV was open to ticketholders and APers to be official, right?

But truthfully, in the end, I would rather just not fight Disney; if it wants to advertise an incorrect date, then by all means go ahead. I'm not going to get in an argument with them. So happy anniversary Disneyland tomorrow!

Well, lots of people are claiming that "Ratatouille" opened on June 29, but I know for a fact that I saw the movie on June 16, so someone better get busy making sure that anywhere anyone claims that opening day was on June 29 that they know they are TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY WRONG. Oh, and in case anyone forgets, make sure that every June 16, start a thread to remind people that it's the anniversary of when "Ratatouille" was released.

There won't be anything terribly special. A re-dedication speech either at the flagpole or in front of the castle which will be brief and possible a pin give away to the CMs and *possibly* ones for sale for the public.

    Other than that, that's it.

It'll remind me of the way they did it for the 49th, very lackluster.

What did you want? It's not a "special year" like the 75th or something.

    Bye.

OK. Here is my thought on the issue.

Suppose you got married on July 17 but for whatever reason you didn't have the reception until July 18. I think most people would celebrate their anniversary on the 17th.

July 17, 1955 is like Disneyland's wedding (or birth) but the reception which hasn't ended began on July 18.

Walt publicly dedicated the park on the 17th. Disney officially recognizes that day as the park's opening day, even if the attendance was invitation only. That's good enough for me.

Actually, Walt read the dedication to the public on the morning of July 18th. He did read also read it on July 17th for Television.

And as mentioned earlier, for over 10 years, the park said that July 18th was the opening day, including opening Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln on July 18th, 1965 in honor of Disneyland's 10th anniversary and had a major media event on that day (and nothing on July 17th, 1965).

But the public rushed in with counterfeit tickets on the 17th so Officially Disneyland sold it's first ticket on the 18th, the public still showed up on the 17th.

The 55th anniversary isn't much, unless it's David Hasselhoff's birthday (which it is). I don't see Dl doing a 55th anniversary event three years from now. Sixty is a much rounder number.
