Fantasmic = "Nightmare fantasmic" = "mysteries and magic" = "visions fantastic" = "strange and wondrous dreams" = in your mind = Imagination!

There is the complex answer to the not so complex question.

It's like Fantastic, except with Mickey?

    Fantasmic!?

Where does the 'mic' suffix (I hope that's the right word, ugh) come from?

    I think it means "imagination+Disney+awesome".

Original name for Fantasmic was Imagination but was changed since Disney could not copyright the name.

Fantasy and Imagination. Or imaginitively fantastic?

    Fantasia: the realm of fantasy.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Not sure if u mean literally or what we would define the show as however I can offer you this. phantasm is greek(I think but not sure on the language) for "a figment of the imagination. They simply mixed that with fantastic and came up with Fantasmic. If you meant how we would define it it could be any number of amazing, wonderful, magical things!!!

Phantasm ('fan-"ta-z&m)-noun, Greek origin: An illusory mental image. Something seen but having no physical reality. Also called phantasma.

Fantastic combined with Phantasm = Fantasmic.

This is of course an interpretation. It's exact origin is likely only known by the person who came up with the name and pitched it in the first place.

The show itself is a "Nighttime Spectacular" according to Disney.
