Re: If HISTA was taken out, which of these attractions would you put in its place?

Is there even room in there for a large attraction, i.e. Space, ATIS?...

Realistically speaking, I guess the best choice would be a new movie for the theater. Let's face it - it's the most economical choice, and thus most likely to be done. I suppose I could live with a 3-D movie themed around Wall-E, etc... Maybe even a new, original idea! (gasp)

3. This is where I dont agree with you. Dinseyland is supposed to have experiences for people of all ages. We have seen lots of "kids-only" stuff in the Park (Toon Town, Bugs Land, etc.) If Dinsey is going to shy away from making thrilling and actually scary attractions just so your little cousin can go on it, weve reached a problem. If you look at the list of what everyone considers an E-Ticket Dinseyland attraction, most of those rides are thrill rides, whether on a small or large scale.

Im not saying all great rides are scary either; if Im going to have to go on some wonderful attraction, it dosent matter how scary it is, as long as the effort was put in. Alien Encounter may not be for your cousin, but I sure as heck would love to go on it. Not everything in Disneyland can be family friendly. Toon Town sure isnt. Bugs Land sure isnt. Not every family going to Disneyland is full of children in the 2-9 age. I may have a 7 year old sister, but I not really going to feel that bad for her if she cant go on one ride when she gets to enjoy hundreds of rides that are tailor made for her age.
Hey Churro Man!

I'm not one of those "it's all about family attraction" kinda guys. Alien Encounter just wasn't very thrilling. I love it that many kids don't ride SM or CA Screamin'. I also like that fact that adult/teens have no need or desire to go on the kiddie rides. I haven't been on Mission Space, and if that's what they put there I'd be fine. However, AE just wasn't a type of ride to want to back on. Perhaps with people that haven't been on it before to see their reactions.

I'm trying my best to not be on the fence. I guess the best way to sum up my feelings is I'd most prefer something different put there. Something with a lot of thought put into it rather than a cookie cutter ride. Also it has to be "tomorrow". HISTA as much as it tries isn't very futuristic in fact, they play it off as it is happening NOW.

Good Post Churro Man. It's nice having friendly discussions.

I'm going to to have to disgree with you on this. Thw ride was closed down in WDW because too many people complained that it was too scary. It's great to say that a child doesn't have to ride it, but there in lies the problem. Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom are seen as family friendly parks, so if a ride is in one of those parks, people will just assume despite numerous warnings, that the ride is suitable for children. If a ride is going to be unpopular and people are going to complain about it a lot, is it worth having for the sake of those few who want to go on it, especially if it already failed at one park?

You are right Grizz.

Problem is most likely it would be the Philhamagic which would fit best in ToonTown. Nothing "tomorrowland" about it.

Honestly, I don't think even Disney is dumb enough to attempt to put Philharmagic in Tomorrowland. Then again, they did put a High School Musical show in WDW's Tomorrowland so who knows what they're cabable of...

Disney is dumb enough. If something is sucessful elsewhere they'll jam it wherever they have space. To hell if it fits with the theme or not. I better be careful, I'm starting to sound like Fo'C!

Lest anyone gets angry, Fo'C is one of my favorites on this chat board!

Oh i see what you are saying. Personally Im not a big fan of sit down and watch attractions at all (they get boring on repeat showings as you said), as my suggestion was to have an Alien Encounter Dark Ride instead.

But I still dont agree with kirbilicious, if a parent is silly enough to put a child on Mission Space or Alien Encounter, they deserve having their child waking them up in the middle of the night for the next two years.
But seriously, they cant back down from doing things that would make the average 9 year old feel very unconfortable, but then again they took out Captain EO

Yes Churro Man, we are on the same page. I did not read that you were thinking AE dark ride which could work. The one they had in Florida was meh. Agreed about everything being OK for people of all ages, some rides aren't for kids and some adults have to endure certain rides to make their kids happy.

I have a feeling the REAL Captain EO would make a 9 year old extremely uncomfortable. I'll keep the jokes there because I don't want to lose my account.

I like sit down and watch attractions when they are really good such as Muppet Vision 3D, but I like rides more. That is the problem with DCA, 6 attractions I like, and 3 of them are sit down and watch (Muppets, ITTBAB, Aladdin). If DCA had 6 rides I liked, I would spend much more time there. Rides generally have a much higher repeatability rate than shows. An Alien Encounter dark ride would be absolutely awesome in Tommorowland. I feel that most recent Disney attractions in America are trying to be too clean and too white washed. I wish Disney did more things like the hanging corpse in the Haunted Mansion, the Hell scene in Toad, and the opium smoking catepillar in Alice.

Thats exactly it. I dont want Disney to get "edgy" or whatever, but the corpse in Haunted Mansion is something that is teachnically gross and terrifying, but because the ride is so awesome everyone loves it. Why do people like Indy so much? The ride and the effects. Why do people like Space Mountain so much? The ride and the effects. While rides like the Railroad are just rides, and rides like Muppets are just effects. Indy is gross stuff too. Skeletons, bugs, mice, but the whole family loves it. If we are going to have mickey mouse having flowers thrown at us, not many people are going to enjoy the ride.

We need more scares and thrills in our rides, because it seems to be what everyone loves the most, mild or not. While many kids would be scared to death about an alien encounter version of Indy (which would be sweet), I know most of the family would love it.

Re: If HISTA was taken out, which of these attractions would you put in its place?

I'm just joining this thread, but given the choices on the Poll, I wanted to explain my "other" vote.

If they are going to take HISTA out, let's put something in there that is actually going to be unique from the other parks. I'm not interested in something that's "popular" at WDW, because that would bring me to WDW, not Disneyland.

Part of the problem with WDI is the "cookie-cutter" concept of putting the same (or similarly based) attractions in all of the parks. Part of the alure of going to DLR as opposed to going to WDW is experiencing attractions you can't get anywhere else.

Yes, there can be some similar attractions, but not all of them. DLR needs something different that isn't presented at all in the other parks.

Given that it's Tomorrowland, what kind of new technologies and achievements has mankind had in the last few years? Nanotechnology, Space Ship One getting the X-Prize, the new breakthroughs in prosthetic limbs - given that the AA developed by Disney were the major jumping point for it. US Astronauts and Russian Cosmonauts working together at a space station...the list could go on. Why limit ourselves with what WDW already has?
