Oh shoot, I meant "progression". Growth? Expansion? Development?

1995 was a great year at Disneyland.

Awwww....this is such a cute report!

Wow, I'm amazed that a premium AP was only $199, and also by the fact that DL was open until 1 am in the summer. Those were the days......

Re: LDF's Retro Trip Report: July 14, 1995 - My Best Day At Disneyland

After dropping off the car at the Hotel, we headed over to the park as it was too early to check in. We went on a few rides before heading over to Club 33.

As there are already a couple of threads running now on Club 33, I won't post too many photos here. But as others have stated, it was a dream come true for me to have lunch with my wife in that beautiful resaurant.

I had been to Club 33 just one other time prior and I seem to remember getting a book of matches when I left. This time, we received a match book, but...

It wasn't full of matches. It was full of...paper?

I think by 1995 smoking was being banished just about everywhere, so maybe this was a way to discourage people from lighting up in the restaurant? Hmmm...

After an incredible meal, we took the monorail over to the hotel to check in. I had made my reservation with a good friend of mine from college who was now a manager at the hotel, and we were instructed to wait for her when we checked in.
She checked us in and just couldn't stop smiling the whole time. She handed us the room keys and wished us a happy anniversary. The room she sent us to....for $69.00 was...

Huh. Wherever 2937 was, it sounded like a long walk with our luggage after spending the morning running around the park. So we set off...

The map said it was in the Sierra Tower on the 11th floor. At this point, we were thinking we might get a good view...

So we headed into the Sierra Tower...

    And found 2937...

We opened the door and found a huge basket of snacks and champagne with some flowers and a note from my wonderful friend. This letter was next to her note beside the basket...

We also discovered that we had a key to a special elevator that only ran up to the 11th floor:

The room itself was amazing. 2937 is located on the corner of the top floor of the Sierra Tower:

So the view from both windows was pretty spectacular. After asking for help online in Micechat, I was able to find some shots of the room. Here is the bed...

    The bathroom...

    And the tub.

We opened the closet and found Mickey bathrobes.

Sadly, we did not make it back to Disneyland as we, um...found other things to do with the rest of our afternoon. And that night, we lost all sense of financial responsiblity and ordered room service...and watched the fireworks from our room, just as we had the night I asked my wife to marry me in the same hotel. (Thanks to Opus1guy for this great shot of the view from the Sierra Tower with the old parking lot before DTD went in.)

Why am I posting this now? Two reasons.

First - I just recently found these items along with the gradnite stuff I posted earlier hidden away in a box in the garage. Before finding these items I had started a thread just a few months ago trying to find photos of the room
and to verify the room number as I couldn't remember.

Second - Last Saturday would have been our 17th anniversary. As many of you already know, I lost my wife to cancer last March and last Saturday could have been a pretty tough day. But thanks to my mom and a very good friend from college, I spent part of that day remembering our best day at Disneyland. That day was pure magic in so many ways, and just another reason that Disneyland is such a special place to me. And...I just wanted to share that reason with all of you.

Wow, such beautiful memories. I did not know you lost your wife to cancer, and I am so, so sorry. I'm tearing up a little bit at these wonderful memories - a reminder to appreciate each day.

Thank you for sharing something so personal with all of us, and I wish you all the best.

Plus, I can see you are obviously one of those persons, like me, that saves EVERYTHING -

    I'm speechless. Thank you.
