| Here You Leave Today... MiceEars Crew Member   | LDF's Retro Trip Report: July 14, 1995 - My Best Day At Disneyland First of all, I thought I would give you a bit of the background leading up to July 14, 1995. My wife and I had always loved Disneyland. This is us on one of our first dates, which, of course, was at Disneyland...  And here we are looking oh-so-cool in our Mickey glasses on one of our favorite now bygone attractions:   ...and in front of yet another bygone attraction...  And so it was that I decided to propose to my wife a couple years later at the Disneyland Hotel. Here we are earlier in the day... (My wife was smiling...that was a good sign...)   And here we are in front of our Limo which picked us up in front of the DL Hotel that same night after she said yes...  This is us a couple of years after we were married. We had an animator friend who signed us in every once in awhile which really helped as we probably couldn't have afforded it back then...  It wasn't long before we began bringing our new family to Disneyland...  And our new family began to grow...  ...and grow...   and grow...  Until we finally saved up enough to make a trip to WDW:  So...Disneyland has always been special to my wife and I, and now to our entire family:   So....what does all this have to do with July 14, 1995? Coming up...

We were married on one of the hottest and humidest July 14's on record back in 1990. Keeping in mind that we were a one income family in 1995 and I was teaching in a public high school, we really didn't have the means to celebrate our fifth anniversary like we wanted to. So...we were planning on a simple dinner out...maybe to Denny's...when we got a call from my mom. Now...my mom is no corporate exective. At that time, she was a retired school teacher living in Leisure World. But mom called and announced that she had tickets for us to go to Club 33!  It turns out that mom had a friend who's daughter worked for a law firm, and she was able to get us tickets to go. I had always dreamed of going inside club 33 ever since I was a kid, and I was dying to see what it looked like inside. So at this point, I thought...we might as well do this thing right. I got on the phone and made reservations for the Disneyland Hotel. We would break the bank and get a room....for $69.00!  So July 14 dawns bright and clear and off we went to the Magic Kingdom. It was only recently that I found some of our souveniers from that day. Some of you might remember a couple of other things about July 1995: a) It was the 40th birthday of DL. "40 Years of Adventure." (Now THERE'S a marketing slogan.) b) Indiana Jones had just opened earlier that year. c) The Videopolis Theater was ditched in favor of the Fantasyland Theater, opening with the Pochahontas stage show. Here then, is the guide map from that amazing day...   Did you catch all of that? The Lion King and MSEP....two of the best parades of all time! And open until 1:00 AM! Here's more...    Circlevision 360...I was so bummed when they took that out... Captain EO...not so much. And TOMORROWLAND! I think we had lost the skyway and America Sings by that point, but the Rockets were where they were SUPPOSED to be, the People Mover was moving people... *sigh*   Country Bear Jamboree....   $199.00 for a Premium! And only 27 block out days for the $99.00 pass! Amazing... The map...    (More to come...)
