Re: The ORIGINAL Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough

I will go through my View-Master reels later today and get a scan if I have the reel. I am pretty sure that I do have it.

I'll also check the Tru-View* cards to see if any of them included an alternate shot. I have some Disneyland cards not produced in the US...

*For those that don't know, Tru-View was the major competitor of View-Master. They started in the 30s making stereo film strips (which are absolutely amazing) and later moved onto a card format for smaller stereo slide pairs. Tru-View had the Disney contract (earliest Disney reference is on a card with the story of Cinderella [non-Disney] that featured a scene of Mickey Mouse stepping out of a limo as a rather bad pun). The Disney contract was a major factor in the buy-out of Sawyer's (original maker of View-Master). Since this was not too long before the start of construction of Disneyland, by the time Disneyland had their first stereo slides, they were available in both Tru-View and View-Master until the last Tru-View cards were produced.

Great - - In the meantime, there are two of Earle's window design concept paintings reproduced on this page:

    http://www.medievalcottage.com/sbvintage.html

Scan down - - the two paintings that literally have window frames painted in were designed for the attraction rather than the film.

This is something I'd really love to see. My grandmum kept all the view-master reels that my mother and aunt had as kids, and I used to absolutely love them. Thank you for the effort to find this!

Also, while we're waiting, we'll undoubtedly want to compare the View-Master scene from the original walk-thru to the artwork of the film itself, so here's a shot from the film for comparison:

Here is Earle's design for the original Sleeping Beauty bedroom window that will correspond to the actual original window as seen in the view-master (if someone wants to post this here, please do - - I have used up my pic posting allotment):

Though, of course, that pic is from Maleficent's curse in the film - the vision she conjurs of Aurora's death, rather than the scene of Aurora asleep in her bedroom.

Yours is better. But it's interesting that the color palette for the diorama scene looks more to the "Maleficent's curse" pic I posted than to the actual story scene you posted, as we shall (hopefully) see soon. Fun.

Yeah, that's the one I grew up with. Not the original.

Ok...So from what I've read the old walk through sounds amazing. It sounds better than the one I grew up with! Maleficent is my very favorite villain and to read that there was more of a focus on her makes me very very happy. But I'm still a little bit confused...were there just 3D paintings in the old walkthrough or were there also animated figures?

    MORE INFO AND PICS PLEASE!!!

3-D flat painted setpieces with animated effects and lighting. No sculpted dolls or figures.

Re: The ORIGINAL Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough

Update... having a little trouble locating the reel so far. Found some other Fantasyland reels, but not the one I'm looking for! Too many to go through and I've yet to have a good sorting system for all these reels I have...

Well, here's a couple of yesterland View-Master pairs to hold you in the meantime:

I'll ask from help from some of my collector friends who I know WILL have the reel if I can't find it...
