I rode it twice today. The wait time were ~70 minutes at 11, and probably 45 minutes long at 3:30 (although the posted times were 105 and 70 minutes, respectively).

    <possible spoilers>

As a whole, I'm simply glad that the ride is back. It's the same experience, but different. I like the new music, as it creates a more visceral tone. Silence is too clinical, and the Dick Dale music made the ride more retro. The new soundtrack is like Carl Sagan meets I-Spy. Michael Giacchino has scored something that is on par with his work in 'The Incredibles.'

My favorite new effect: the spiral galaxy/starfield effect at lift hill B was fantastic, as is the re-entry tunnel. I do agree with the OP and others who state that the inside feels a little hollow at times. However, there is something to be said about flying through the emptiness of vast cosmos. In a way, I do wish there were some sort of WOW effect like an astroid encounter or a high tech robot effect, but on the whole, I still think the ride has an extremely high repeatability factor.

The queue itself is more cramped and enhances the experience of being a space ship. The point mid-way through the queue where you used to be able to preview the ride, is now gone. I think this ads to the darkness of the ride. Most people on the ride really got into it, and were impressed as they walked out.

Overall, I think it's a great extended 'refurbishment.' I'm looking forward to putting Space back into my regular must-do attractions list when I revist the park in the future.

Very well put. By thinking of Space Mountain as a simple "refurb", I can really appreciate what was done to the ride. By thinking of it as some new experience, I am disappointed.

Holy crap though, what the hell was going on during re-entry? That effect was so cool, and I couldn't tell what was going on...

Too bad it only lasted like 5 seconds

It should be noted that the original opening date was in November....so PLENTY of stuff was probably left out to meet the ambotious date set by OuimeT

All the CM's said that all the effects were working and installed for the preview...

I'm just going to assume that all the great special effects will be for Rockit Mountain...

I'm sorry, but hundreds of disco balls isn't very "special" to me. How crappy is it that the best effects take place at lift off and return? Ridiculous...

I have'nt ridden it yet, so I must ask. Does it still have the same feel of flying thru space? also, it the center still orange with the giant "space globe/planet" thing?
And lastly....is it true that they took out the space mountain viewing section of the queue?!!! I loved that part. What is there now? Are their still TV's with space mountian TV? Also....can you still hear the rumble effect of the coaster and the high pitch space noices and the astronauts talking in the background as your waiting in line. Are their still alot of blacklight effects? Is the Fedex robot still at the loading platform? Who sponcers the ride now?

It feels better than the original that's for sure. It's so dark that if you don't know the layout, then you'll never know which way you'll turn. The star effect is pretty convinving too. The ride is very smooth and pretty fast, so fast in fact, that I thought we were going to run into a wall. It's crazy how the mind plays tricks on you in the dark!

There's no center orange thing, so you have no real reference point. Just billions of "star" all over the place.

The queue is very narrow, you can only fit two people side by side in it. That having been said, you can no longer see inside of space mountain from the queue.

The Space Mountain tv's are there but during the preview, they were only showing the safety spiel. I don't know if we'll have actual entertainment.

I couldn't hear any Astronaughts talking, it was pretty loud from all the guests, and the narrowness of the queue makes everything that much louder.

Backlights are used quite a bit at the loading station, and the FED EX robot is gone. I am not sure who sponsors the ride now.

So basically it's a good improvement over the original, but I feel like they could have added more to the coaster portion.

    Meh.

I was expecting more than new film of stars being projected. Re-entry isn't bad.

The track is 100 times smoother than the old one.
