Re: Finding Nemo - What's going on?

The reason FNSV doesn't have the lines that IAJ did when it opened is fairly simple? IAJ was a ride that was packed with adventure and thrills, from what I know it doesn't look like Nemo is packed with adventure and thrills. HM and POTC are also packed with adventure and thrills despite not being wild rides. FNSV just doesn't sound that exciting. Now a ride like TDS's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea sounds exciting because it looks very atmospheric and mysterious. I like the movie Finding Nemo, but by theming the subs to it, it makes the subs less appealing to me. Finding Nemo sucks the mysteriousness out of what a submarine ride should be.

I actually really enjoyed it (and never saw a short line - 75 minutes was as short as I noticed, that was near the fireworks time - and that is when I got in line).

It was very hot this past week, I cannot imagine spending even 2 hours in line for anything (new or not).

The Year of A Million Dreams commercial I absolutely looove. Everytime I see it I 'tingle with magic'. If anyone read the Disney Girls books, it's when your hairs stand on end, and it's supposed to be magic in the air. Heehee.

I am not, and will not ride the Submarines. Not because they failed or anything, but because I am highly clausterphobic. I can't even imagining going into the submarine, let alone stuck in it for however long the ride is. Unless someone drags me on, or my baby sister pleads with me, I am not not not riding it. I rode the Submarine Voyage many times as a child, and I felt like the walls were shrinking in on me THEN. Now I'm much bigger.

That could be keeping people away too.

And plus, I've waited three hours for something once. Back in 2005 when Space opened again. And I got sunburned, and it was miserable. it was in the summer, too, so it was burning hot. And during the 50th anniversary, so people were EVERYWHERE. We occupied ourselves by counting golden mouse ears.
It was not worth it, and I'm not waiting three hours for anything ever again.

Since the ride can only get 1,000 people on an hour, it is surprising to me that the wait time has reduced to 90-120 mins. although that is still a long time and i would not wait in that line, it sounds short compared to the 6 hour line on opening day. but the park has been slow compared to last summer. i didn't work last summer, but according to my fellow cast members, our locations were busy all day. this summer, only gibson girl ice cream parlor is busy. so that is why i get very sad when i get scheduled at coke corner or blue ribbon bakery because it's so slow. it's so surprising to me because i am thinking, ok it's summer... where is everyone?

The attraction simply isn't getting 4 hour waits because it is marketed as a childrens ride and not an adventure such as Indiana Jones. As I predicted the attraction would lose its key audience and appeal for turning this once mysterious attraction into a Fantasyland dark ride. Personally I like FNSV but feel it would have been much better had they kept the original more adult theme. The problem is adults just aren't willing to go on a childrens attraction when the temperatures are so hot.

That about sums it up for me too. We went during the AP event and and in several trips back to the park since no one in our family has said "Lets go on Nemo". Not once. SM and Splash reign supreme as always.

Re: Finding Nemo - What's going on?

I think it is due to overall park attendance. It may just be me, but I think the park has not been all that crowded in general the last few weeks. And now that the Orange County Fair is going on I think that may have an impact on the DL crowds until at least August 5, when it closes.

BTW the Orange County Fair in its 23 day run attracts hundreds of thousands to almost 1 million people. So IMO that HAS to have some effect on the crowds at DL -- and by extension the line for Nemo.

Re: Finding Nemo - What's going on?

I'm of the camp that won't wait in a line longer than 2 hours. In fact, my wait time tolerance for Nemo was 90 minutes. Chalk it up to getting older. In my youth, I would easily wait in a line much longer.

Don't forget, just because the lines aren't 4 hours long all the time, doesn't mean fewer people are riding the Subs. The theoretical daily ride capacity shouldn't be affected by line length, right? The same number of people are getting to ride each day no matter how long the lines are--unless I'm missing something.

I haven't been on the FNSV yet (still blocked out)... does this mean we're seeing 30 min. lines in August????

My guess is not a chance. Maybe in October but no sooner.
