How many of you didn't want Nemo?

Never been to FNSV yet, because I've been blocked out, even on opening day. But I hear that it's just based off the movie storyline... where's the creativity in that? I wanted Nemo, but I thought it'd be a sequel or spin-off...

Now that I know it's copied right off the movie, (I'll ride it just to ride a submarine again) it makes me wish they could've done something awesome... like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, based off the book, or Atlantis. Both would've been very futuristic, but I fear Finding Nemo is heading toward Fantasyland.

I'm ok with Finding Nemo becoming a Fantasyland dark ride, but please not Tomorrowland, especially when it's based off the movie, with no futuristic environmental connection/futuristic ocean topic. It's just a movie about the ocean. Yes, people kidnap fish (Nemo, in this case), but in the sub ride he isn't even kidnapped, he just gets lost, right? So yeah... it's not futuristic. (I know there are those hydrophones or whatever to hear the fish, but it's not futuristic enough)

Who here instead wanted a more futuristic submarine ride? I wanted to see 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea with a VERY scary giant squid attack, or Atlantis, while we see animatronics of characters from the movie and the awesome ruined city.

Any other ocean-based movies that would've been more futuristic than Nemo?

(By the way, I don't hate Nemo, it seems like it, but I don't. Futurism is something I miss. And, I can't wait to ride the submarines again, even if it's just watching a summary of the Finding Nemo movie. I'll ride this one several times.)

Well, 20,000 Leagues took place in the 1860s. Pretty sure that doesn't qualify as "futurtistic."

But your point is well taken, and I think you will find a number of us who believe the concept of "Tomorrowland" would have been better served with a different "overlay" for the subs.

Nemo gets lost again but it's not like the movie except on a ride. It has some things (like the whale) which happens in the movie but is not exactly the movie in Ride form.

Cool! So there should be new things.

True that submarines are no longer 'futuristic', but reading the book, the concept itself is futuristic. Captain Nemo speaks of underwater cities, has that happened? Nope, not yet. Wouldn't that be cool? And has anybody ever produced electricity on a submarine by sodium?? Hmm... that's something I've never heard of. Maybe one of the show scenes for 20,000 Leagues would've been the future of humanity living underwater, where we see cities at night, all lit up, with fish swimming around them.

That's what I meant by futuristic. True, story took place in the 1860's, but I love it.

(I just noticed... whoo! This is my 105th post!)

I would have much rather had a 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea themed sub ride instead of a Nemo themed sub ride, look at how atmospheric TDS's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride is:

You can't get that kind of atmosphere of mysteriousness and wonder when you put Nemo in there.

I am glad SOMETHING was done with the subs. Here in Florida, we've got zip.

The alternative - you could have had a Pooh playground built on top of it.

While I'm thrilled to see the lagoon fixed up (it looks FANTASTIC at night) and it's really nice to get some motion going in the area again we thought Nemo was "cute" but nothing spectacular ... about what we expect it would be.

In several trips back to the park since riding itthe first time no one in our group has even jokingly said "Want to go on Nemo?"

Still, I'd much rather have Nemo than nothing in the lagoon.
    IMO - YMMV - FYIGM

If I have to accept another Pixar based theme to get something up on the PM tracks -

    I'll take it!

Disney could have redone a timeless attraction with 21st century technology, instead they had to base it off a current movie. Having Nemo subs is better than nothing, but it can't even compare to the theme of the original subs.

    I agree completely.

I just don't think Disney would have allowed a 100 million dollar project without it being tied to something else.
