Re: Index for "Long-Forgotten" HM Thread

Okay, I'm sitting down to work on the index. As for the DEAD END sign, fwiw, it wasn't there when the HM first opened, but it was added pretty early on, like within the first month or two, I'd say. Before the end of 1969, anyway.

Re: Index for "Long-Forgotten" HM Thread

On another note involving the exit from our doombuggy - do you still hear the alternating man's/woman's voice instructing us how to exit from our vehicle? I always thought those two pretty much killed the ambiance of the experience just then with those matter of fact line readings and always wondered why it wasn't done by the Ghost Host himself like the WDW version...

Re: Index for "Long-Forgotten" HM Thread

Up to page 109, post 1304. Should finish this thing tomorrow. The "Long-Forgotten" thread has sunk to page 6, as is inevitable, and of course it will continue to sink, now that it's no longer possible to post, but get this: it's added close to 2000 more views since it closed. I'm as surprised as anyone.

My plan is to put the index into a separate post, then link it and write:

"A subject index for this thread has been composed in order to make it more usable as a reference, now that it is archived: http://xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxwhatever"

Then maybe we can persuade the mods add that one brief note to the first post of The Thread, so it will have the link to the index right there at the beginning.

Yes you do, and it bugs me, especially since the CM standing there can say it, too.

Re: Index for "Long-Forgotten" HM Thread

You know... What I never understood about them removing the exit sign, was why not just add it to the top of the up ramp before you turn to go outside? Because afterall, we still aren't in the living world. There are the ghostly singing voices, the ghostly laugh and Little Leota still before we actually exit. Made sense to me anyway....

Re: Index for "Long-Forgotten" HM Thread

Okay, gang, it's done! Now, since I'm going to just put it into a post, it can be edited. So if anyone finds mistakes or has suggestions, let me know. I didn't bother indexing names of Imagineers, for the most part, or names of posters, since the search engine obviously works just fine for those. I tried to think in terms of someone actually looking up a topic for info, so I pretty much ignored "I like pop-ups"...."I don't, I think they're cheesy" types of conversation. I also ignored all the speculation about upcoming WDW changes, since no one will care anymore about that in another couple of months. I'm putting it into the next post, and will ask the mods to add a link to it at the beginning of the Thread.

Oh, it's okay to post on this thread. Hopefully, there will be a link to that one post only. We should probably start a new thread though, with a less clunky title.

Re: Index for "Long-Forgotten" HM Thread

It's been done! (Thanks, IndianaJenn)
The first post of The Thread now has a link to the index above.

It was a lot of fun going through it again. Amazing how much info poured into that thing. The "Concept Art," "Haunted Mansion photography," and "Unused Concepts" entries in the index point to particularly enjoyable aspects.

P.S. I've now linked the Index to The Thread also, so if you're at the Index, you don't have to go searching for The Thread as it sinks further down the list.

The sign is there to get you to step out of your doombuggy, I think. Otherwise folks might just sit there until it went back around to the loading bay.

Thanks, Chad. It was a lot of work, but it was fun to revisit all that material.

The Bone is right, I think. You've got the sign, then the GH saying he will lift the safety bar, and you've got the inelegant additions to the spiel about stepping out to the left, and you've got a CM right there. When the HM first opened, my recollection is that you had the GH's spiel and the CM, and that was it. There must have been some confused folks, folks not sure if this was just a haunted house trick, folks not paying sufficient attention, etc. Probably there were folks naively thinking the ride should stop before they get out, like any normal ride. The moving conveyor belt thing was still a weird concept to a few guests, and they may have been hesitant about stepping out of a moving vehicle.

Re: Index for "Long-Forgotten" HM Thread
