Is it the "Year of a Million Dreams" or isn't it? Lilly Belle lovers want to know...

So I came down last weekend for the first time since MiceChats 2nd anniversary party in late January. I haven't posted a trip report yet because I fix a/c units in the Central Valley and it was 104 degrees today...

    But I digress.

When we went into the Park Friday morning, I had my trusty Carolwood Pacific Historical Society nametag with me since I had read that while only Club 33 members could officailly ride the Lilly Belle, CPHS members were usaully granted passage since the CPHS is a club dedicated to the history of Walt Disney and his railroading hobby.

I approached a conductor who was at the base of the Main Street train depot, and presented my namebadge and asked him if it was true about members of the CPHS being able to ride the Lilly Belle, to which he replied that it wasn't necessary to be a Club 33 member or a CPHS member to ride. He said that Disneyland had decided to include rides in the Lilly Belle as a "granted Dream" in the "Year of a Million Dreams" promotion!

I was very excited at that new, and sure enough, the next day I was at Tomorrowland Station and up rolls the #5 - The Ward Kimball, and following her is the Lilly Belle. Tigerlily and I hopped aboard and asked one of the conductors of we could ride in the Lilly Belle and were told that rides began and ended at the Main Street Station, and only if there was enough staffing to afford a conductor for the Lilly Belle.

We pulled into Main Street Sation and within a couple of minutes a very nice young man named Brian escorted us back to the Lilly Belle where we had a delightful ride around Disneyland with our well-informed conductor.

He confirmed what we were told the previous day and so when my brother called me Monday from Disneyland, I told him to go to the Main Street Station and ask for a ride on the Lilly Belle.

He was told that only Club 33 members can ride or VIP's. My brother went and asked about this at City Hall and he was told the same thing.

I don't get it. Can communications be that bad between CM's that this kind of thing can happen, especially after having it confirmed by 2 conductors only 2 days prior?

I know that riding the Belle is a privilege that can technically be granted anywhere if you are a VIP but only at Main Street Station for us commoners! It also depends on staffing, they need to have an extra person to ride in the Belle, crowds (if one rides then every trip someone wants to ride and they can't always afford that extra CM), If the Belle is on, and the general mood of whomever is in charge.

I am sorry that he was told no. I am not sure about City Hall but I was told they actually hand out tickets... I believe it was on another thread. Do you know if he asked at different times of the day? It is usually easier to get a ride at night when it is not as crowded. Also did he talk to multiple conductors? did he talk to the lead at the time? Sometimes you can make arrangements to show up at a later time and ride. This works extremely well, if you are willing to be flexible then they are usually very accommodating!

Hmmm, we rode and we weren't VIP's or anything - we were told just what you were told.

Will trade husband for Disneyland and DCA Pins!

We rode a couple weeks ago during our trip. We boarded at the Tomorrowland station. As per everything else we did, the pup slept thru the ride (see avatar.) I will say, even with the windows open, it was very warm going between Tomorrowland and Main St.
If you see a cute yellow lab puppy with a yellow cape, WAVE! It might be us! (Or it may be someone else that lurks here!) Thank you for asking before you pet! Next trip, Dec 22-Jan 3rd.

    I don't understand the question...

Have they given lilly belle rides as part of the YOMD promo.. yes
Are they restricting the rides to YOMD winners? No
Do people get rides as part of just 'magical moments' that CMs can do on their own? Yes

I asked at the Main Street Station on Saturday and was given a ride in the LB. The Conductor stated that it was TYOAMD and he would be more than happy to arrange it. It seems it all depends on who you ask and when...

I asked at City Hall a few weeks ago, he phoned Main St station and set up a time for me to ride. Even gave me a souveneir ticket. I didn't eat at 33 nor was I a YOAMD winner (Heck, haven't even seen the dream squad)

i was proposed to on the lilly belle in jan. we weren't YOMD winners....and we're not 33 members....we got a commemorative ticket....rode main street all the way around, without a CM....well i think they were on the stoop on the outside, but they left us alone. trusting?

it must just be a lot of miscommunication....

just like when market house tells guests that they can get refills on coffee anywhere with a receipt, when this is not a true statement...as (aside from table service) the restaurants do not give free refills on coffee.....dang market house.....

My wife, Skywaygirl, Snow_White_Raven, Littelbit, and I rode it a couple of weeks ago. Well of course I am a VIP (Well, in my own mind of course). Just ask at the Main Street Station. If they have enough conductors they will let you ride, unless you get bumped by a Club 33 member or a Dream Winner.

Re: Is it the "Year of a Million Dreams" or isn't it? Lilly Belle lovers want to know

I rode on Monday. It was right before the parade started at 6:30 PM (figured the crowds would be lighter for the train). I asked at the turnstile. He asked if I was with a plaid group or had a ticket and I said no that I just have always wanted to ride the LB. He told me he would check to see if a conductor was available and to have a seat on the bench inside. Another man came in and sat down and I asked if he also wanted to ride the LB. No, he was hoping to ride in the tender if there was room. He was a train buff and knows all about the trains at Disneyland. He was not able to ride as the tender was full and so asked if he could join me in the LB if we could get on. Of course I said yes. Finally the train with the LB attached came into the station and after some discussion amongst the employees a woman conductor took us back but did not come in. She stood out on the platform but left the door open for ventilation. At the Toontown Station she laughed and said she would just stay outside as we probably knew more about the train than she did

So basically, it's just being in the right place at the right time and hoping the cast members/conductors who are operating the station are able to accommodate you. I did feel like a VIP walking past everyone on the train and being let into the LP.

I think it all depends on the person you ask and how busy the park is. We had the same discussion a few weeks ago about the Wheel House on the Mark Twain and it seems that there are different stories out there about YOAMD, VIPs etc and who can actually ride where. I have never asked to ride the Lilly Belle because I usually have my kids and I am afraid they will break something!

This past week myself and a few friends went out there to celebrate my bday. I had gotten split from my buds, so I figured I'd head over to main st cause I knew one of my buds wanted some gibson girl ice cream. So anyway, I was in NOS so I went to the station and was just about to sit on the train when one of the conductors noticed my bday button and asked if it really was my bday, I explained to him that it was the next day but wasn't going to be at the park for it. He then asked if I wanted to ride the LB! I almost did a cartwheel I was so excited. I had wanted to ride in it for years! He took be to the car and wow! all I can say is I was snapping pics all over the place. It really was a special treat. Got to do a full circle tour NOS to NOS. Sadly the guest book wasn't out for me to sign. But it was such a special bday treat. Once I figure out how to post the pics on here I will!
