    Character Lunch/Dinner

We are heading to Disneyland in 1 week and want to do a character lunch or dinner and were wondering which is better, Ariels or Goofy's kitchen. We have done Goofy's for breakfast in the past but never for lunch or dinner. How is the food and atmosphere at Areils? Thanks

    Re: Character Lunch/Dinner

I've not yet been to any, but look forward to Goofy's Kitchen for breakfast in October! From what I've heard and read about on reviews, lunch (at least at Goofy's) is the same as breakfast. It's more like a brunch buffet. Then it's different for supper, and from what I've read, quite good!

Good luck and have a great time!

    I vote for Goofy's.

The princesses are great at Ariels but I was not impressed with the food. In addition Goofy's Kitchen is a buffet so if you get something you don't like you can always go back and get something else.

Goofy's. Better character interaction and better food. PB & J pizza.

    Re: Character Lunch/Dinner

I have been to both twice.

Ariel's is a set-menu. Meaning you choose 1 appetizer, main course and dessert from a pre-set list. Check out the menu first to make sure there is something you like because the pricetag is hefty if you don't enjoy the food. The princesses we saw are Ariel, Aurora, Snow White, Mulan, Belle and Cinderella. They basically start a rotation one-by-one in the corner of the room and go around from table to table. The interaction is quick, not a lotta time for chat, mostly just a picture and/or autograph and go. It tends to be crowded and noisy and a long wait even with a PS. The princesses are very popular - plus it's actually in the park (more accessible) as opposed to Goofy's which is in the hotel. Goofy's is a buffet, so more choice, but the quality can be a little hit-and-miss. Characters we've seen include Donald, Goofy, Max, Mad Hatter, Pluto and Mary Poppins. The interaction was fabulous here - lots of spontanaiety, practical jokes etc.
This also may have been because it was far less crowded.

Whichever you choose - you'll have fun! Enjoy!

As far as we are concerned, we recommend Goofy's Kitchen.

We have done GK at least a few dozen times over the past 15 years or so. Never had a bad time. Great character interaction. Just be sure and not make reservations right at opening, or within the last hour of closing. The characters kind of "disappear" if you know what I mean...

We've done Ariel's Grotto twice now. The food was OK, but the Princess' parade through the dining room was weak. Sure we saw five Princesses, but only for a QUICK photo opportunity and a brief hello (if that). It got to the point where thay would just walk up to us and say, "want a picture?". They let us take it and then they were off to the next table. No chit-chat, no nothing.

We tried it a second time, but ended up with pretty much the same results.

Besides, you get Princesses at Goofy's Kitchen anyway. And even a Prince or two!

    Enjoy!

    Re: Character Lunch/Dinner

word of warning, characters at each can change even daily. when we were at ariel's, the characters that circulated were, cinderella, alice, snow white, mary poppins, and the fairy godmother. at goofy's kitchen they were goofy, chip and dale, donald, baloo, alice, jasmine, and pluto. the quality of food is pretty equal at either place. the only differences are is that one is a set meal and the other a buffet. and of course one is in the park and the other at the DL hotel.

My daughter loves Ariels, but she is 3 1/2 and very into princesses. You definitely dont get as much character interation, and the set menu does leave something to be desired, but when we went we had all the princesses minus Jasmine I think. I have heard nothing but good things about Goofy's Kitchen, we may try that sometime, although my daughter has already asked to go back to Ariels again for her Birthday in Oct.

    A little piece of heaven

Thanks everyone.....I'm sorry if this thread topic is a little played out.

We are going to go with Goofy's. But who knows we might try Ariel's too.

    Re: Character Lunch/Dinner

I've not been to Goofy's but I expect to try it next month on our trip.

I've eaten at Ariel's and thought it was great, though our service was slooow! The food was tasty (I got meatloaf and there was a lot of food!) and the boys enjoyed their food. They were delighted with the princesses who signed autographs, posed for pictures and did a little chit-chat with them, commenting about what they were eating. My son was only 2 at the time and rarely stopped stuffing his face to talk, so the princesses got a kick out of that! I enjoyed it, but the service was so slow I don't know if I'd do it again, it really took a big chunk out of the day.
