It's inevitable that they need a gap between the HGM and the first unit at the end of the route so they can get to their Reviewing Stand seats - but by the time the HGM gets to the end, the parade has already done at least one show stop behind them, if not two... There's your time gap.

    They've NEVER had a 15 minute gap between the pre-parades. It's only 10 minutes.

And pre-parades are called that for a reason. If you jam them all up right before the parade, it no longer serves the purpose of being pre-show entertainment, and instead become part of the parade. (Many people line up an hour before a parade, so the goal is to keep them happy and entertained by having some "unexpected" pre-shows that bridge the waiting time.) And artistically, they clash with the main parade, so you want to keep them spaced apart.

One note: Guest bands go before Ratatouille and Grand Marshall. Some guest bands (usually college or armed forces) do show stops, but most junior and high school bands do not.

Re: Ideas for a new Christmas Parade!

Just found this thread. Great one.

Someone mentioned Fantasy On Parade and that the floats from today are not 30 years old. More like 15-20. In case you don't know Fantasy On Parade was a regular character parade with Christmas units at the very end. Here's the Finale from the last run of that parade (1987) that a nice fellow shared on Youtube.

Mouse, I really like your "Parade of Holiday Dreams" idea! Though releasing too many scents may smell bad altogether. Though it sounds nice! There also might be children or adults who are allergic to the smells and/or they don't like them. Of course the Cinnamon must stay - I could care less if people like it or not . This fits in to the xmas them.

^Well, they are doing scents in the Once Upon A Dream parade at Disneyland Paris. Haven't heard any complaints about that yet. Plus, the smells are not meant to be overpowering, just subtle.

Where do you think I got that idea from? And Prince Blue, I stated that the floats would be about two to three minutes apart from each other. This way, we would not have ofactral sensory overload.

Thought I'd give you an update on the parade idea, and the aromas that will match the floats, which would be released by strategicly-placed scent cannons. If you missed the original post about the parade, here's the lineup with an updated list of smells provided by name from Disney's aroma provider:
    • The opening float is the same as PoD, but is Christmas-themed. Instead of Peter Pan and Tinker Belle, who would join the others in the front, an elf with a book of "Naughty and Nice" on top of the other, driving the train.
    • The Toy Soldier band follows.
    • A Gazebo decorated in holiday decor that gives off scents of a Blue Spruce tree is released in the air with Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Daisy on board. Snowmen and women dance alongside along with those kitchy dancing trees.
    • "Alice's Winter Wonderland" follows with Alice, Hatter, the Tweedles, Queen of Hearts, the cards and the return after nearly three decades of the Cheshire Cat athmosphere character as they are painting the roses different colors. This is based on a Christmas Card that Disney sent last year and the Painting the Roses Red scene from the movie. A scent called "Flower Shop", originally made for FTD Florists, is released from this float. As with the regular PoD float, Alice and Hatter are miked for sound.
    • The christmas tree follows, giving off a scent called Christmas Wreath.
    • The expanded two-part Princess float follows with Ariel (in her mermaid form), Snow White, Cinderella and Belle on the first part, and Jasmine, Mulan, Pocohantas and Aurora on board the second part. Princes and support characters are along side, with the float releasing a cinnamon vanilla scent. All the princesses would be miked as well.
    • Casey Jr. will return to the parade lineup pulling Mickey's Toy Express, a reminder of the Toys for Tots campaign featuring Pinocchio and Geppeto, Woody, Buzz, Jessie and Bullet, and Pooh and the Hundred Acre Wood characters, along with other toy characters. Santa's elves will be dancing along side as the train releases a chocolate chip cookie scent.
    • The Goofy's Candy Company float, proposed in the Halloween Parade ideas, would return in this parade with Goofy, Pluto and Chip and Dale, releasing the scent called "Candy Shop".
    • A new and improved Gingerbread House float (with the dancing cookies) featuring Emil, Remy and Linguini from Ratatouille appears with a gingerbread man scent released throughout.
    • The traditional Santa Claus finale is expanded to add Mrs. Claus on the float on a seat below Santa's sleigh at the Claus' residence - an clear "ice castle" that changes light - and releases the scent called "Christmas Morning", a mixture of baked goods and pine trees.

And as usual, your criticisms and comments are welcome.

LOL, yeah it was like "Design a new parade featuring all of the elements from the old parade."

I'd get bored and leave if there were a 2-3 minute gap between parade floats.

Re: Ideas for a new Christmas Parade!

I think they should do an all new Christmas parade, the one they have now is kind of a random collection of mishmashed ideas. And the looped music that says nothing about Christmas is kind of overly PC.

Yes. Forget the PC stuff. They should march down the street singing, "For Unto Us A Child Is Born" from Handel's Messiah.

Re: Ideas for a new Christmas Parade!

Here's a revised version of Scent-sational Parade of Holiday Dreams:
    • The opening float is the same as PoD, but is Christmas-themed. Instead of Peter Pan and Tinker Belle, who would join the others in the front, an elf with a book of "Naughty and Nice" on top of the other, driving the train.
    • A Gazebo decorated in holiday decor that gives off scents of a Blue Spruce tree is released in the air with Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Daisy on board. Snowmen and women dance alongside along with those kitchy dancing trees.
    • "Alice's Winter Wonderland" follows with Alice, White Rabbit and Hatter skating on the float with the release of the scent called "Flower Shop", originally made for FTD Florists. As with the regular PoD float, Alice and Hatter are miked for sound, and the Tweedles and the Queen of Hearts join the quad-skating snowflakes.
    • The christmas tree follows, giving off a scent called Christmas Wreath.
    • Then we bring on the Toy Soldier band.
    • The merged Beauty and the Beast and Castle floats from PoD, retrofitted with holiday decor follows with Ariel (in her human form), Snow White, Cinderella and Belle on the first part, and Jasmine, Mulan, Pocohantas and Aurora (and maybe if the movie is successful, Giselle) on board the second part. Princes and support characters are along side, with the float releasing a cinnamon vanilla scent. All the princesses would be wired for sound as well.
    • Casey Jr. will return to the parade lineup pulling Mickey's Toy Express, a reminder of the Toys for Tots campaign featuring Pinocchio and Gheppeto, Woody, Buzz, Jessie and Bullet, and Pooh and the Hundred Acre Wood characters, along with other toy characters.
    • A new and improved Gingerbread House float (with the dancing gingerbread man and woman cookies) featuring Emil, Remy and Linguini from Ratatouille appears with a gingerbread man scent released throughout.
