I would love to see something more like a real resort.

I'm a little heartsick at just hearing this even being discussed.
I think back to all those times when I was little, and we'd go around window shopping at the hotel area on a Sunday afternoon, or just around for stroll, just to pass the time.
Or the times we'd buy tickets and go into Disneyland from the old monorail station. Sometimes we'd ride in the front bubble, and sometimes in the back bubble.
I still remember the time when I encountered a Latino gentlemen on the stairs of the monorail station who spoke almost no English (this was in the early 70s, before such a thing became commonplace in O.C.), and who was looking for something (I forget what; a restaurant or some store or something); I gave him directions in some very rudimentary Spanish that I'd picked up from other kids at school, and he was very thankful.
Mostly I remember that big red neon sign blazing in the night sky.
I know, most of that's all gone now anyway... but now they're tearing down the actual buildings, eh?
It's a shame. So few things ever last at all these days, especially in California. So very little of the Orange County I grew up in remains today, and I'm not really that old.

Disneyland Hotel gets blown up In HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 5: THE PROM
Where did this rumor come from? The curious want to know!
Mom, remember, it's not what a person is like on the outside that counts,it's what they are like in their HEART!

I would be as heartsick as you but they already took out my favorite: Monorail Cafe. Even Marzie's Pantry or whatever it was called. It was like the only place in the early 90s to get refills at Disneyland.
And on top of that, the waterfall and Fantasy Waters is just... it just doesn't cut it anymore. It's time for a do-over.
For Paradise Pier Hotel, I know it's Judimouse's favorite hotel, but it's a serious eye-sore. They can build a hotel in the area behind the PPhotel, then implode it and then the new hotel will be ready even faster.
Disneyland Hotel needs to also be fixed up. I liked Merlin Jones MidCentury architecture idea, but whatever they do, it needs to be a classy joint. What happened to the clubs like Neon Cactus? What happened to nighttime entertainment? Downtown Disney doesn't serve enough of that.

I welcome the demolition of the hotel. Don't get me wrong I do love it, but it is time for somehting more modern and seomthing that has the amnenities of a 4 or 5 star hotel.
This is pure fantasy. With Disney already spending a billion on DCA and not yet having broken ground on a DVC at DL there is now way there are going to spend probably close to another billion dollars to implode the hotels and rebuild that whole area. It just does not make economic sense.
As for the seismic issue, there are many hotels still in SoCal that do not meet todays standards. They are grandfathered in.
This may happen someday, but it will be years from now. They would not be bothering to rename all the towers and convention rooms / ballrooms and such if they were just going to implode it.
Paradise Pier I hope, but the Disneyland Hotel I doubt it.
Just another in a long list of rumors, with nothing substantial behind it.
They could have it all done my 2025 or so and ready for 2030 for the Disneyland 75th Anniversary.
Disney FAQ#275: What is DCA?
DCA stands for Disney Construction Area. All the Cast Members are themed with hard hats and steel toed boots.
If you look at the area that the hotel/mickey and friends parking structure, and paradise pier take up on google earth, and compare that with the area that the strawberry fields and other Disney owned land in the area, it would probably be smarter to demo the old hotel, parking structure and all of it and put a 3rd park there.
Put a new mega DL hotel on the strawberry fields, and connect it all with a disney mass transit system.
Keeping the debris under control is one thing, but the dust cloud in that area would be crazy - there'd be a lot of cleaning to do, fo sho. My Wife and I drove to Vegas to say goodbye to the Stardust Hotel - one of the most bizarre, exciting experiences of my life! We were across the street in the Wynn parking structure - after it came down, the dust cloud enveloped the crowds in the street - people were panicking and trying to run away - car alarms were going off, cars were driving covered in dust with windshield wipers trying to clear the dust - very surreal. As the cloud drifted into the parking structure, we just slipped into the casino away from the chaos outside. I'd definitely go if this happens at Disneyland, but I'll remember a dust mask this time!
