8/16 - Cove Bar reopens, low crowds, HalloweenTime signage and more

    Photos from Thursday, August 16th

    http://darkbeer.smugmug.com/gallery/3320346

A fence is being built in part of the Simba/secondary DtD Parking Lot, next to the current DVC mock up of the WDW version. Could this be where the GCH mockup for DVC be built?

Most of the Disneyland Hotel signs have been updated with the name changes, but a few still need to be replaced.

Only about a 70 minute wait for Finding Nemo at 5:45 PM (7 subs running)

Short waits and low crowds for a peak summer day (Should be interesting to compare the crowd size to next week, when the SoCal AP holders can once again enter the park)

HalloweenTime Posters have been placed at the parks exits, promoting the event that is scheduled to start in just over a month (September 21st).

    Toy Story Mania! construction update

The Cove Bar has reopened after being closed for about a week, and even the bartenders don't really know the real reason why it was closed....

And of course, a few duck photos...

And let me highlight some interesting info that came out this week (Well, I find it interesting) while I got your attention.

The second quarter required Campaign Statements are available online in regards to the Zoning Change issue in the Resort Area.

Disney has donated $1.6 million so far to SOAR, and SunCal (the builders) have donated over $400,000 to CDPA. That is already over $2 million spent without even looking at all the expenses that the city has paid for in regards to this matter.

You can find some interesting discussions about it at these links, at a board that has CDPA as a sponsor, and the person (Jubal) who wrote the main articles is a consultant for SunCal.

Wow, I'm amazed that they kept those 1978-esque-style gold letters for the new names!
In which case, they could've salvaged the M-A from Marina and reused them for Magic!
Actually, it's nice to see something "not" modernized for a minute.

The cove bar has re-opened? I thought it was going to be a few months. My guess is if there was no obvious refurbishment it may have been to correct a health code violation...

Forgive me, I'm not up on all the lingo here. What is the GCH mockup and DVC mockup of the WDW version about? Thanks.

Disney has filed building permits with the City of Anaheim to build a 1,800 square foot building that will be a model to sell timeshare-like vacation condos. DVC is "Disney's Vacation Club", which is the division of DIsney that sells the vacation ownership program.

Note the address on the permit is Walnut, so the DLH area

Currently, DVC has a model next to the area being fenced in, that is a model of the WDW (Walt Disney World) version of a DVC room that they use to show prospective buyers to intice them to purchase.

There are 2 other recent builging permits filed, both listing the GCH address.

    The first..

Addition to Hotel (Grand Californian Hotel) Shell Only
Here is a map of the parking lot area where the current DVC model is, and where the new one will be built. (Alas, the sattelite photo is old and doesn't show the current model, which would be in the upper section of the area marked.

I had a feeling the Bonita Tower would become the Wonder Tower. As in...I wonder why I'm all the way out here?

Great update photos. The building over at DCA has really changed since the last pictures I saw. The photos of the Halloween event have made me want to look into it more since we will be down in that area in October.
    thanks again

That was a good section of photos. I'm amazed that the Lost Boys Restroom area was changed into a generic version. Isn't Disney suppose to make it unique? It also seems that Midway Mania is coming along nicely; I was there yesterday (AP renewal), and I noticed that the ride building is starting to show, as well as the show building.

It's great to see the lines for Nemo is going down. Maybe when fall comes, the lines will be short, and maybe I'll finally be able to go for a ride on it for once.

About that Anaheim Garden Walk- when does it open?

The last info was that a group of Restaurants that face Katella are shooting for a November opening.

Bubba Gump's, Roy's, McCormick and Schmick's Grill, P.F. Chang's, California Pizza Kitchen and The Cheesecake Factory.

So that would be the parking structure and the Katella facing area. The rest of the center would be blocked off, and the only access would be from Katella, though the Parking Entrance from Disney Way might be open, but I seriously doubt it, just the Katella entrance and exit.

Then the entire mall and most of the shops (called Phase I) is scheduled to open in the Spring of 2008.

Darkbeer, thanks for the link to that CPDA blog! That's some alarming stuff being said over there by the SunCal Developers and their hired bloggers! I just weighed in myself on his blog.

I saw, I have been reading Jubal's stuff for quite awhile, but haven't posted about it, since it is usually right after an article ends up in the LA Times or the OC Register.

But he was the one who posted the Campaign Statement for the SOAR group that showed the $1.6 million that Disney has given the group so far. So in this case, it was a primary article. It was also the first time I have posted at the OCBlog, when I found the CDPA Campaign Statement in the public records of the Anaheim City Clerk section. It also showed another side of the issue.

But OCBlog is now part of my regular sites I check out, I found the Wild Rivers news story I posted here yesterday from the OCBlog daily news roundup.

But I think both articles I linked to earlier are worth reading for those Disney fans with some interest in the zoning matter, and is some amazing stuff, and also shows that threads go off topic at non-Disney boards (referring to Jim at the OCBLog and his focus on the RiverBend project).
