    Ordering "to-go"

My brother has recently fallen in love with some of the food that they have at Disneyland.. ok.. at Cafe Orleans.. particularly.. the gumbo..

So.. my question is.. are we able to order it "to-go" or if I decide to eat there on my next trip.. if I could order it and just "doggy bag" it??

I need to know because my next trip's sole purpose may be to give him his "gumbo-fix" and if that is not possible then I would hate to see the look of disappointment in the poor guy's face.

If anyone knows the answer.. I'd be a very happy big sister!

I always get my chowder to-go from the French Market so I don't see why they couldn't do it at Cafe Orleans

Thanks! I just need to know some sort of concrete "yes" or "no" because I'll be going with my mom and she's the type of person that could possibly throw a fit or complain or something.. especially since she's expecting that we are able to get it to-go..

I don't want us to be denied and then she goes off on this mini-tirade..

    Thanks again!

    Re: Ordering "to-go"

I tried to order to go at Cafe Orleans, since it became a sit down restaurant,
and they said no. Sounds like the reason was because it was a sit down
    restaurant.

French Market is probably ok with to go orders, because you get in line,
they just place it in a box, instead of a plate, and they don't care where
    you eat the food.

Perhaps Cafe Orleans has changed the policy, since my request, late summer 2005.
But don't hold your breath. Sometimes the service has been a little slow at
Cafe Orleans, and by accepting to go orders, it would slow down the kitchen.

i would guess, that there must be some sort of option to telephone and get an answer 100% to this question. Maybe begin with guest services and take it from there. But certainly you'd want to avoid that potential scene with mom (mine is exactly the same way) so, a few phone calls would be worth it!

If you're coming from the Los Angeles area a better bet for gumbo and everything else on the menu is The Gumbo Pot at Farmers Market -
if you can't make it to New Orleans (or New Orleans Square) its the next better thing:

    Re: Ordering "to-go"

Disney's policy is NO to-go if it is a sit-down restaurant, such as Blue Bayou, Cafe Orleans, Wine Country Trattoria, etc.

Heck, even Knott's has this policy, and has signs posted in front of its Johnny Rocket's.

Alas, the locations would be overwhelmed if they allowed To-Go, so to make sure guests get decent service, they have restrictions...

I'd eat there, then ask for a to-go box for the gumbo. Everyone's happy.

Ask City Hall for the recipe, they have several available.

Or try Zatarains Gumbo Mix from the market with some fresh shrimp and/or sausage, and cook up a pot of gumbo yourself - it works fine with just sausage, but tastes vary. (Needs a bit of okra, but that also makes it bitter.)

Gumbo is simple and easy. Bachelor Chefs like simple and easy.

    Re: Ordering "to-go"

What about getting it at the walk up place near Pirates? Royal Street Veranda? I haven't been there in a while, and it says that they serve it in a bread bowl, but maybe you could bring your own container to transfer it into? I'd probably want to do that anyway with it being gumbo and all.

Good luck and that's pretty nice of you to help him get his fix!!

This is my first post here on micechat!
Anyway, I agree with aashee... I have gotten things to-go at Cafe Orleans, but it was while eating there with a group, and just picking something up for someone else...
