I think with very few exceptions, most everyone here thinks CM Matt has done a very special job in his time as DL's president. He is not perfect or some kind of a god as some might suggest but especially compared to the previous administration he's done some great things.
What one thing makes him so good? To me it is this:
The concept of DL as envisioned by Walt; Matt gets it. Simply put, the previous management did not.
He's putting the heart back into Disneyland.

Pet peeve: Why do people call him CM Matt? It's kind of annoying.
I believe he calls himself that and wants to be referred to as a CM.
It's the concept that he is not the almighty ruler (ala Eisner) but a CM like every other employee, just that his position is president who provides the leadership.
I like that. The moment the leader of a company (or a Resort) thinks people will do thisis the beginning of his downfall. The way to get satisfaction from people in this free country is to come down to their level, get good and friendly, and give them what they want. Oh, and that's why I like Matt too.

By the way, his humility coupled with his passion is what gives him the ability to do the great things he has so far with the resort. Its a combination of skills not possessed by many managers or leaders. Oftentimes, those who have it are derided outside their ranks until history shows otherwise. So let Matt know how much he is appreciated.
I actually think that name came from some people over at MousePlanet. nothing to do with what Matt O. wants.
This is exacly what I was thinking before I read the thread. He "gets it", or at least he seems to be trying to. Much different than the whole Pressler/Harris ideaology. They didn't get it at all, and it showed.
I'm sure that he will make mistakes along the way and we'll all be mad at him for one reason or another, but at least he seems to be doing what needs to be done.

As said above, he gets Walt's vision. He's not focusing on how much money to pull from guests, but the guest experience.
He also is not denying that TL '98 was a disaster by working very hard to get it back to it's former glory.
What made me first like this guy was that he got the subs to come back

Keep in mind Matt is still a businessman. He wants your money and lots of it. But yes, his business philosiphy seems to be that the greater the guest experience, the more money you will get. The old management philosiphy; we're Disney, we don't have to work hard to be great, we'll get your money anyway.
That is he humble enough to be called CM Matt and not take credit for this celebration. He credits the ENTIRE team! That is amazing and helps to build and strengthen a team's moral overall.
Oh... and for the many, many buckets of paint and for helping Tomorrowland not turn into attractions of yesterland where the signs, building, tracks, lagoon, etc. will still be there tomorrow.
He runs Disneyland from a guest POV. "How do we make this the best possible guest experience?"
Previous management ran the place from an employee prespective. "How can we trim and streamline to optimize operation?"
