Yes, Toy Story Mania! and the Pier facade (aka stores and games) was one project that was approved and has a budget, and any overages will go to that budget. Then the Wonderful World of Color lagoon show got a separate budget, which included the infrastructure, some modification of the viewing area and of course all the artistic stuff, including music, design, etc.

There might be some debate and arguing of whose budget gets charged for some of the Route 66 upgrades, either the WWOD budget, or the "DCA Problem" aka major overhaul budget, but that is typical of any budget.

Also one other budget comes into play, and that is the DVC budget, since they are planning to construct at the same basic time as the Route 66 stuff. Some of the design and building of the North edge of DCA could be charged to DVC as improvements to enhance the DVC units, such as views and sound mitigation.

Because the World of Color and viewing area budget is separate budget as the Route 66 overhaul, Does that mean there will be 2 different construction sites or will they both be one huge site, and end up closing the whole area off.

More than likely, one big project to allow for cost savings for all the projects. But that the WWOD part will be completed first and might allow some of the area to re-open up prior to the new attractions being completed.

Thanks for the gmap outlines, Darkbeer, it was helpful to visualize the (probable) area of construction as well as the new (shortened) parade route.

Your ideas for changes are making a lot of sense. One thing with that restroom I quoted above, it needs to be rethemed. If I remember correctly, the signage outside resembles road signs, and the inside has got tile walls depicting roads and cacti - obvious tributes to Route 66. (Well, maybe not-so-obvious, as this theme is getting razed!) It should be redone to reflect the Ratatouille / Victorian beer garden motif, and it can be done in a similar fashion as the Fantasyland restroom that recently got remodeled with Alice characters, complete with card doors for the stalls.

Re: What will happen to DCA in the next few months and what to do?

Some people have made mention of removing the Golden Zephyr, and some (myself included) would rather not see it removed. Well, on that thought, I photoshopped the area of the GZ and OS from the Sun Wheel. My Photoshop skills aren't THAT great, but it gives a decent enough look at what it might look like without the GZ.

    Before (with the GZ)

    After (without the GZ)

    ___________________________

I still hold true to my beliefs that it looks better with the GZ. But, I will admit it looks nicer with that space opened up a little bit. Maybe take out the OS and replace it with the GZ? That would be nice (IMO).

Re: What will happen to DCA in the next few months and what to do?

The MAIN reason that the rides, mainly the Zepher, will be removed will to open up sight line for the lagoon water show, as the above photo shows, a lot more open viewpoints.

It would be like if someone moved the Astro Orbitor near the entrance to the River Belle Terrace. It wouldn't work for Fantasmic!

The goal of Wonderful World of Color is to produce a show that has the same appeal as Fantasmic! and will keep people inside of DCA instead of running over to Disneyland to catch Fantasmic! and the Fireworks. The reason are crowd control, the ability to not offer as many discounts on tickets and hopefully make DCA a destination park.

And if they can't create sightlines and "seating" at least as good as what is offered in the NOS area, then they failed.

My source recently informed me that the Zepher would simply me moved to the current location of the stinger, and that the Malliboomer would be removed entirely

DCA does not photograph well at all.

When is all this bulldozing going to start? Tear the place up damnit! And btw, when is the rest of the ugly Boardwalk area going to be torn apart and remade? Midway Mania's building is taking shape very quickly and it will look very bad if it opens with the current faded paint, metal and stucco infested Paradise Pier.

Rumor has it that some people don't know what will happen...and rumor also has it that they're not going to worry about it, and will wait & see what happens.

The only proposal I didn't like was using Lucky Fortune Cookery for other things. I think DCA should retain a Chinese Food location, as it's such a prominent cuisine in California. It was pretty good there, too.

The Lucky Fortune Cookery hasn't been used for years.

Get rid of it. Better yet, why don't they move the Little Mermaid attraction over there? Put the mermaid on the wharf. She'll still be out of theme, but the wharf will be a little more appropriate than The Palace of Fine Arts.

Speaking of Mulan, it's too bad they couldn't incorporate a Mulan dark ride as part of a San Francisco/Chinatown extension. I know Mulan is China-based, but connecting it to a part of California wouldn't be as much of a stretch as with Ratatouille.

Also, just hearing the potential exit of GZ, Orange Stinger, and Mulholland Madness gets me very excited. I would enjoy it more bulldozed than in its current state.
