Fishbulb's Labor Day, OMG it's HOT 09.02.07 Trip Report

"Did you feel that?" I asked Dusty as we were getting ready to head over to the park. "No." He answered, "What?" "We just had an earthquake." I said to him. Checking a website online we found that at about 10:30 am Lake Elsinore was hit by a 4.2 magnitude earthquake which, by the time it got to us, was about maybe a 3.

We later hopped into the car and headed to the resort. Niether of us wanted to dare going into the parks that day as the resort at 12:00 noon reached about 106ºF! We were still exhausted from spending the previous day at San Diego's Wild Animal Park in similar conditions. We found out where the noon meet group was eating, White Water Snacks, just outside DCA, and made our way there.

We got to the arctic air conditioning of White Water and both began to congeal into human form again.

MattHammand's cool son chomps on some fruit.

I found out that a very special person was among the group. My DEAR friend Eyes Of Mara. One of the originators of the of the Church Of Walt.

    Fishbulb and Eyes of Mara

We all sat and ate and enjoyed each others company. It was at this point that Dusty received a business call and was asked to go to a meeting at 4:00pm. I told him I would just hang out in the Air conditioning at the resort and he could pick me up later.

It was also mentioned to us that earlier that morning both Disneyand and DCA's rides were shut down briefly due to the earthquake. Later that I was told that the out door attractions at both parks were in danger of being closed due to the increasing heat. Yes it WAS that hot.

I then turned to PirateMunkee and Princess626 (my scary movie friends) and asked if they wanted to catch the remake of Halloween at the DTD Amc Theaters. We checked the time and realized we had 10 minutes to get there before it started at 1:55. We quickly said our goodbyes and, along with the lovely Disney1978, headed over to see what Zombie had in store for us. Here is my review.

    Yummy air conditioning

After the movie PirateMunkee had to head off to work and so Princess626 Disney1978 and myself decided to look for some refreshing liibations.

    Princess626 and Disney1978

The lobby of the Grand Californian was PACKED. No where to sit.

Since Hearthstone was a little crowded and the drinks are bigger at Cove Bar, we decided to risk it and see if it was open.

We braved DCA in the SWELTERING HEAT

    Jiminey Christmas we made it!

    Almost there!

    Access...

    DENIED!!!!!!

Crestfallen, we gazed off to the horizon where, through the heat distorted view, we saw the Trattoria. Want to go relax and have some wine? INSIDE?

The Trattoria, an oasis in an otherwise desolate park.

We requested to be seated in Tamara's section and within minutes we were escorted to the cool indoor dining area.

The out door patio was EMP-TY on account of the heat

Tamara met us at the table with a pitcher of water and glasses already filled. After getting our bearings she asked us what flavors we liked in a wine. Each of us told her and she whisked away returning quickly and handing us each a hand picked glass of wine suited to our tastes. By all accounts they were extraordinary.

After some FABULOUS red wine that Tamara suggested I try I began to loosen up and cool down.

Many had the same idea we did.

    Look a pretty rosebud

The girls had to go potty

DCA was still too dnag hot so we decided to head over to Disneyland to ride the big, air conditioned E-tickets over there.

We did, however, make sure to stop by guest relations to let them know whata wonderful job Tamara did over at the Trattoria.

    It's what you do

    More to come...

I'm SO sorry you had to be out in that heat. I, on the other hand, was riding my bike in the 415. The Golden Gate Bridge was obscured by fog as we rode over it. And even in Tiburon I doubt the temperature got much over 70°.

Then we took the ferry (brrr, it's cold on the bay!) back to SF and watched part of a bike race.

This cooling moment brought to you by Trekkiedad.

Fishy, the only thing hotter than the temperatures lately is your work as a trip reporter. Keep it coming!

Re: Fishbulb's Labor Day, OMG it's HOT 09.03.07 Trip Report

In the Esplanade the three of us stopped by to say hello to Paul...

    Hi Paul

Then got through the main entrance. The temperature began to drop slowly and things became a little bit more bearable.

    WEEEeeeee Refreshments!

Our Fuzzy and Fluffy trio cut right into Adventureland and, on the way to pirates, snagged some Indy FP's.

We went in through the out door, out door

    I'm a gargoyle

    At last Pirates!!!!

    I am in mourning

Thank god for the cool darkness of POTC. The three of us requested and packed into the front row. We wanted a good wave. We got it too

    We're number 1!

    1st drop wave.

    2nd drop wave.

(Fishbulb does not condone the distracting use of flash photography while riding Pirates, Mansion or any other dark ride.)

3rd splash after the lift hill

After our watery adventure we needed more cool and fast. Mansion it is. We were on our way when Dusty called me. He told me he was about to get to the resort to pick me up.

I begged to be able to go ride Mansion before it was taken over by Jack Skellington. He said he'd be waiting for me in the temp parking off of Harbor.

    AWESOME!

The lighting was strangely bright in the ballroom scene

Well it was time for me to say see ya later to my two beautiful companions. I gave them my extra Fast Pass for Indy and raced out of the park to go grab Dinner with my honey and some friends.

The park was still hot and was busy

    Adventureland traffic

The Matterhorn says goodbye to the sun

    The End?

Nope. After Dinner we decided to return to the Resort to meet up with others and ride the Subs

Fireworks were going off and the esplanade was packed with DCA's leftovers watching the show

    Zooming down Main Street

    Through Tomorrowland

    We made it!

    Shannon, Crazylegs Sister was there.

Spot the bewildered Frenchman. DLRPBopazot joined our group for a spin in the subs.

    Almost there

    We made it!

    'Ello mate!

    Baloons!

    Jellyfish!

    Volcanos!

    Swallowed by a whale

The rock formation in reference to the sea serpent

All done! On our way out we spotted Eyes of Mara in line.

We walked around the park as it closed and admired the park after dark.

Okay well that's it. It was a long day, but with MiceChatters you are never alone at the happiest place on Earth.
