    Spreading Anniversary Magic

Well, the closer it gets to the 17th, the more I feel like I'm missing out on something really special. Maybe everyone who lives away from SoCal is feeling the same way.

Anyway, a few months ago I got this idea of how I could "Share the Magic" with my friends and family. I love making custom CD's (mix tapes, if you will) including designing the jewel case inserts. So I started working on a way to make a really cool Disney-themed CD of my own. As of this afternoon, everything is done and ready to be mailed tomorrow morning, hopefully to arrive by the end of the week.

My CD is called "Disney...Another Way" and it features famous Disney songs performed by someone other than the person who sang it originally.

Here are pics of the front insert and back tray insert that I made:

    And here's the playlist:

How did you get the songs? Were they on other CD's? I bet it was fun creating the CD.

It would be cool if you had some Country Bears songs too. I loved that show in Disneyland.

You should put "Grim Grinning Ghosts" by the Barenaked Ladies on there. It's beyond fantastic.

Wow! I'm with the others.. where did you get many of these different versions? I know some from Disneymania the other recent ones. But would you mind sharing the original album locations?

I think this is a great mix and I love the album cover!

    Re: Spreading Anniversary Magic

Thanks everyone. It was a lot of fun to put together.

Most of the songs came from Disney produced CD's. Needless to say, I've got tons of them. Other songs came from various CD's I have that just happen to have a Disney song on them (like, the Streisand track is from her album "My Name Is Barbra, Too").

I was originally going to make a single CD, but as I started going through my collection I kept finding great songs that I thought non-Disney fans might enjoy also. So it grew into a 2-disc set. And there were 5 or 6 songs that I had to cut because they wouldn't all fit on the 2 CD's.

I'll put together a list of albums that I pulled from. If there's a specific song that you want to know about, let me know.

all the songs are in a digital format in my iTunes right now, just in case...

But when it comes to contemporary songs such as "You've got a friend in me"... I think it is safe to stick to the original.

    Re: Spreading Anniversary Magic

I like the updated music approach that you did. I put together my personal CD with many of your songs, but I have to say, you have a great collection! Now some songs I would like to know where you got them:

    6. Themes from Cinderella
    David Benoit & David Sanborn

    14. Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah (Song Of The South)
    The Mike Curb Congregation

    12. The Second Star To The Right (Peter Pan)
    James Taylor

    8. I'm Late (Alice In Wonderland)
    Barbara Hendricks

And outside of the original, do you have any other version of Hi Diddlee Dee, an Actor's life for me, orchestral or vocal?

    Re: Spreading Anniversary Magic

OK Kids. Here's the list of CD's that I used for my collection. If you want info (or anything else) on a specific track, let me know.

    Disney-produced CDís
    Disney Mania 1 (2002)
    Music From The Park (1996)
    Mickey Mouse Disco (1979/1996)
The Best Of Country Sings The Best Of Disney (1996)
Simply Mad About The Mouse (1991)
Cinderella (the 1995 newly recorded score with songs)
    Toy Story 2
    Mouse House (1997)
    Home On The Range

    Other non-Disney CDís
    1. Barbara Cook: The Disney Album (The original Marion The Librarian from The Music Man)
    2. Barbara Hendricks Sings Disney: When You Wish Upon A Star (Disney with an operatic flair. Not my favorite, but she does have a few Audra McDonald-ish moments, which I like)
    3. Emile Pandolfi: Once Upon A Romance (Solo piano, sort of a cross between Classical and New Age)
    4. Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah (Big Band renditions of Disney tunes)
    5. Debbie Shapiro Gravitte: Part of Your World (Another Broadway personality)
    6. Stay Awake (Late 80ís compilation with many famous singers)
    7. Barbra Streisand: My Name Is Barbra (The ultimate diva, and she sings Disney, too!)
    8. Luis Miguel: Segundo Romance (a Spanish-language singer with a sexy voice)
    9. Johnny Mathis: The Essential Johnny Mathis (a longtime favorite)
    10. The Mike Curb Congregation: Walt Disneyís Greatest Hits (Iím not sure if Disney produced this or notÖ)
"George Bush... is only for now."

#6 is from the 1995 newly recorded score for Cinderella. All of the songs are performed by various artists.

    #14 - see above post

    #12 is from Stay Awake.

    #8 - see above

As far as "An Actor's Life For Me", I can't think of another version off the top of my head. Seems like Barbra Streisand sang it in one of her TV specials (so it might be on CD), but I haven't taken any time to research it. I'll let you know if I come across anything. There must be other versions out there somewhere.

    Re: Spreading Anniversary Magic

I haven't seen my all-time favorite non-Disney cover of a Disney song mentioned... That would be Los Lobos doing "I Wanna Be Like You" from the Jungle Book. It's on their "Just Another Band from East LA" compilation, I believe.

Hey JiminyCricketFan, I looked around and I can't seem to find any other versions of this song. Weird. There has to be something out there, but I'm not having any luck.
