Where have all the waterfalls gone???

Why has Disney removed so many of the beautiful waterfall features in the park? The Twin Sister and Big Thunder Falls. The submarine cave waterfalls. The African Veldt Baboon Mountain waterfall on the Jungle Cruise. And if you notice, Sweitzer Falls is not cascading as heavily as it once did. I know why This was done. $$$$$$. But how could they in good concience do this. These details are what make Disneyland special.

Ironically, I just finished working on my new sig gif this morning as I was thinking along the same lines. I may have gotten the angle wrong here. Was the earlier shot taken from Tom Sawyer's Island?



In any case, I totally agree. we could certainly use more falls around the ROA. And when the falls were running around the Sub Lagoon, that whole side of the park had a different feel to it.They had them running over the Summer. Are they off again now?

They removed Cascade Peak from around ROA quite a few years ago. The structure was in bad shape and Paul Pressler* decided it was easier to remove.

The waterfalls at the entrance and exit of the Submarine show building are going strong. I still get a misty spray when I pass the Matterhorn. The twin Sisters were strutually unsound and needed to be removed, and I haven't been on the Jungle Cruise in years since no one in my group ever seems to want to go, and I haven't pushed it since my last experience was during the terrible mid-late 90's...yuck...

If there has been a change to water preasure on the Matterhorn I would imagine it's less about cutting costs, and more about limiting the ammount of damage that is done to the concrete structure by the powerful waterfall.

I did a number on Cascade Peak a while back. Thunder's falls are still there on the side, Jungle's Elephant Bathing Pool falls are still there as are the Baboon falls. The problem is that the Baboon side tends to clog easily at the top preventing the cascading water like in years past. As to S. Falls.... well that one clogs A LOT and it just doesn't have the force it used to. Also they had to build a new face so it is not the same one that was in the pictures.

I heard about the Cascade Peaks going down awhile ago. Wish I had gone to Disneyland to see it before it got torn down. I always wanted to see the remains of the Mine Train Thru Natures Wonderland.

Come on now, How much would have cost to refurbish the frontierland falls? Was it really a good idea to remove them to save a buck? The cost to revitalize them could not have been all that prohibitive. It was always so specail to see these falls from the Mark Twain , as a dramtic finsish to the river excurtion. There is too little to see from the ride as it is, But that is another subject.

With just about every dime going into DCA over the next couple of years, I think it won't be likely that we'll see anything over on the Cascade Peak side done for quite a while. But the thing I love about waterfalls is that it creates motion and gives visual life to that particular area. It's one of the reasons I put a four foot waterwheel in my backyard along with a footbridge and a couple ponds. I wanted to "animate" that corner of my yard and bring it to life, as it were. Losing Cascade Peak with the falls really hurt that side of the River. I can't imagine it would take more than $!00,000 to bring something back. Maybe not Cascade Peak, but for 100 grand, you could build a fairly nice cliff face and empty the falls across from TSI...maybe have the water source split and send some falls over by the pond across from Big Thunder. It really would plus that whole side of the park.
