    Question about River Belle Terrace

    What exactly are they doing?

The last time I went in there, I thought the layout was very crammed and the decor was very OLD. The wallpaper was a little um, faded. I loved the chicken salad they had. Anyways, are they redecorating it? Redoing the kitchen? Disneyland.com says it is supposed to be closed until December.

Some day perhaps, but I don't think that is what is going on right now. This appears to be a major refurb of the existing facility. The dining room and kitchen have been gutted and will be rebuilt. Perhaps with a different configuration of the layout. But I don't think they are moving forward with the 2 story restaurant with Fantasmic viewing that had previously been proposed for the site (at least not for right now).

I doubt it will be full-service, especially with Café Orleans right there.

Ok cool. I am just glad to heard that they have gutted the place. It especially needs it. Hopefully they will move to the Plaza Inn next. They need to clean those gorgeous curtains!

I forget the source, but I do recall hearing that it would be full-service. While I too am skeptical of why they would place three full-service eateries so close in proximity, who knows. Disney works in mysterious ways.

also full service is less per hour than buffeteria style and Riverbelle always seems to have a good sized line, so making it full service seems to me like they'd be shooting themselves in the foot sorta moves

It will not be full-service. It will remain buffeteria. It is being redesigned to operate more like French Market & will be opening with a new menu.

Dusty is right, the 2 story rehab won't come for a while & when that comes it still won't be full service for all guests. (Perhaps for the super expensive Fantasmic! dining, but not for regular operation)

If it's not going to be two storys then why did they tear off the balconies? Are they going to be changing the facade, then?

The balcony was removed to add a new emergency staircase from the offices upstairs.

The upper level of Riverbelle has offices for Attractions, Foods and Stores managers, scheduling offices for all departments, plus a break room for all CM's, plus several dressing rooms and a green room for Characters and Entertainment CM's.

There was only one staircase for all of those areas, and in the event of an emergency involving that one staircase there would have been no suitable exit route for those CM's trapped up there in an emergency. The facility failed to meet updated fire and earthquake codes for buildings in Orange County. A second staircase for emergencies is being added on the northern side of the building, leading from the offices down to the north patio area.

The kitchen for Riverbelle terrace is being remodeled and updated. It was a cramped and archaic little kitchen that hadn't been updated since the 1960's. If you were to go back there you would have been amazed that they could even make you a sandwich out of that tiny area, let alone a full pancake breakfast or turkey dinner. It's a testament to the Foods CM's that they did what they did out of that disgusting little kitchen. It will still be a tiny space, but the new kitchen equipment and layout will give them a cleaner and more efficient area to work in.

The dining room and anything a guest would see is getting a modest refurbishment. Nothing too dramatic, just a slightly revised layout, new furnishings, new paint and wallpaper, new fixtures, new decor, and a fresh outlook on life. It will be a welcome update for that tired old dining room. I walked through there the other day with a buddy who is a Foods Lead and we looked at the plans on the counter. The place is currently gutted.

Re: Question about River Belle Terrace

Um... there is already two staircases they are adding a third staircase no a second. Yes, it will return as a quickservice location with a new menu of course. Also the kitchen will be muuuch larger compared to how it was before, with the removal of the reason why the kitchen was so small in the first place. The basement storage area is also being redone and wow it's pretty amazing. The basement will also see some additions and thankfully it wont remind of the pavillion anymore.

True, but the second staircase only serves foods and stores. The attractions side of the structure is served by the one stair.
