I'm currently reading Studs Terkel's 1974 nonfiction book "Working: People Talk About What They Do All Day and How They Feel About What They Do"
Imagine my surprise when I was reading about a 74-year old retired shipping clerk from Chicago and he said:
"This coming December, it'll be three years I made the trip to California. I got a sister out there. I stayed out there over the Christmas holidays and we went to Disneyland. Believe it or not, honest to God, I didn't think such beautiful things existed in this world of ours. It was somethin'."
(he says the phrase "believe it or not," several times in the chapter while talking about various things).
There was also a chapter about a merchandising guy who worked with Evil Knievel who mentioned that he wore a Mickey Mouse watch because he liked to do things people didn't expect him to do.
