Sometimes you get terrible luck and get the same door many times in a row, or the doors aren't changing.

But they are supposed to move and sometimes they don't work.

Actually - the doors stay where they are. It's the strip above the door with the faces that moves.

There are four "doors" and one real one. The track and center door are stationary. Lighting and the heads moves to make it appear as if you are going through a different track is stationary. There are actuall four fake doors. The lighting makes it appear as if there are only three.

You are correct, the doors do stay put, but it is the side walls which move. There are 5 doors - but you only see 3 at any given time. The walls shift one space to the left or right to make it appear that you are going through the left, middle, or right door. Colored lighting and scrims are used to give the effect that each door is different.

There is actually just one track and one real door. Next time you ride, look down at the floor in front of the ride. You can 100% guess which door you will go through by which one has the track running to it.

As for whether or not you are crazy, don't worry about it, this is one of the effects on the ride that is often broken.

The fact that people are always confused by this effect makes me happy. It is one fantastic effect, complicated perhaps but effective.

solid track - same door every time - different stuff over the door to make you think it's different...

    This video shows the effect...

They weren't working yesterday when I was there (9/22) And the sound was messed up in the Snake section.

Really? 'Cause both of those effects were working perfectly when I went on it yesterday. However, after only a week and a half, the smoke-out-of-the-eyes trick wasn't working properly, again. On the upside, the ride seemed MUCH rougher than I can ever remember it being. I even got airtime... several times!! It was awesome!

I think it's common practice that towards the end of the night they always run only one door. I've never been on the ride within an hour or two of closing when they didn't have only one door running, so I assume it's purposeful.

One time the door was just open, which wasn't great for the atmosphere.

If you get the door that is "fountain of youth," and look to the sides, you can make out the images from the "earhtly riches" path behind blue scrims (the paintings of people with gold and jewels and stuff). You can also make them out with the "vision of the future," path. In that path, the "star" effect on the ceiling is just lit to draw your attention up there. It's actually quite ingenious.

Hmm, maybe I just got on at the wrong time lol.

The sound didnt quit in the snake section, it just seemed a few seconds off...
