Re: Why aren't there more Audio Animatronics Attractions?

I believe all in due time will the creativity that used to drive the parks as well as the compant as awhole will soon be re-established. I mean, the parks as well as the company hasn't had the best leadership over the past years and because of that its been in quite a funk. Now with Mr. Lassetter at the helms of WDI i truly believe the wow factor that once was, will soon become the now is...patience i believe...patience
You can't talk S*** unless your gonna do something about it...

And they'll always have an edge on projections, as far as I'm concerned because they aren't a trick or a gimmick or an optical illusion, they're real. You can't get more real than real.

And I can testify personally that AAs are worthwhile for their own sake. I'm wasn't particularly crazy about adding Jack Sparrow to POTC, except in that it would be a new and very nice animatronic, which it is. I really like the AAs, they're really good - but I don't really care for them being in the ride - I preferred it "classic".

I would LOVE to see a new attraction as AA-driven as the Haunted Mansion, or Pirates.
The Indy AAs are nice, but they roll by pretty quickly.
Or they could just clone Shields and Yarnell

I'm surprised they never tried to make audio-animatronic cashiers to take your money at the gate, shops and restaurants.

At current pay rates and benefits (few and none) it's cheaper to hire the CM's than maintain the AA's.

Besides, who would the leads be able to abuse then, the AA's are notoriously unsatisfying in this regard.

DCA DESPERATELY NEEDS an attraction with tons of AA's,
along the lines of HM or Pirates. Only when THAT happens
will DCA really be worthy of being called a "Disney" park.

Have you ever noticed the horrible looking AAs in the Emporium on Main Street? When you're in there, LOOK UP. It's as if something terrible has gone wrong while shopping on a Victorian American street. They don't move, they look like dead shopkeepers that nobody ever noticed or buried.

I do believe the Auctioneer is still the test ground for new technologies. It seems every time I see him, his movements are more intricate. I saw him today and his fingers were moving! Looks like they were trying to make his hands expressive.

Re: Why aren't there more Audio Animatronics Attractions?

It's kind of hard to have a story without characters, and it's even more difficult to have believable characters that are not physical and three-dimensional.

As bad as a few of the electronically-controlled and mechanically-animated puppets Disney has used over the years have been, they are all infinitely more convincing than fish or monsters on television screens or half-naked mannequins in loincloths happen to be.

Puppetry is a centuries-old art form, and it isn't going anywhere. If Disney is not going to use animatronic characters, anymore, someone who understands their importance will.

One might think that Disney would appreciate the value of using animatronic puppets since the company considers its proprietary characters to be among its most powerful competitive advantages. Disneyland, after all, should be the place where people can find these characters living and breathing. Unfortunately, the Eisner/Pressler/Rasulo mindset seems to persist.

I find interesting the fact that Disney's recently-announced response to the call for more characters at D.C.A. is slapping Mickey Mouse's face on The Sun Wheel, instead of actually giving guests more animatronic puppets at the California park. Hopefully, the animated figures will have a greater presence in the new Disney's California than they had in the announcement.

Too expensive to build and maintain? Is that a serious excuse?

Where is the $91 ticket price or the obscene soda markup going to? Too expensive? Hah.

We need another AudioAnimatronic spectacle at DCA - I hope The Little Mermaid lives up to this, and takes you on a wet for dry journey under the sea.

In my opinion, the figures in Monsters Inc. do not deserve to be called Audio Animatronics, unless the Fantasyland dark rides are included in the list too, that is.

Re: Why aren't there more Audio Animatronics Attractions?

There have been a lot of AA "incidents" over the years. They are a liability, thus the need to limit their presence in the park.

Pirates have been known to drop their pants at times. Although nothing obscene is shown, the wires and fiber optics scare young children. Tom Morrow has also been known to make some wildly unacceptable gestures at guests. These are reported by Disney as 'glitches', but seem at times to be too much of a coincidence.

Due to these problems, construction of Rocket Rods II, featuring AA characters from Disney Channel's Play House, has been halted until they can create a AA character that performs as programmed all the time.
    "Let's get weird" -Abraham Lincoln
