Disneyland Gift Certificate - Is balance placed on a gift card?

I have a $100.00 Disneyland Gift Certificate (paper not plastic). I plan on using it for a dinner this weekend but I know we won't spend $100.00. The certificate says it's not redeemable for cash. Does this mean I loose any unspent portion, or will they give me a Disney Gift Card with the remainder placed on it?

Thanks in advance for any answers. It's my boyfirend's b-day surprise...he won't know we're going to DL until I wake him up and he won't know about dinner until the afternoon.

You should be fine. You are actually protected by California State law. By law there is no expiration date on gift certificates. You can't cash out a certificate, but the balance will carry over forever until it is used up.

Some companies do give the remaining cash out if there is a low balance left on the card, maybe $5 or less. But this is per company policy and I don't know what Disney's policy is on this.

Just so you know, never give anyone a gift certificate tied to a credit card. For example, American Express or Visa offers generic gift cards that you can give for gifts to people. There is a loophole in the law that allows credit card companies that offer gift cards to reduce the value of the gift card after a certain amount of time. And they may also place an expiration on this as well. This is because the state law I mentioned applies only to gift cards connected to specific merchants and not to lenders such as credit card companies.
