is 9 miles an hour too fast?

Hey I was thinking of making a trip tonight just so I can see fireworks, but Iwent to weather channel.com and it said that at 9 p.m. winds will be at 9 miles an hour north to south. Is that too fast for fireworks. If so, I'll save myself the bus fares. I take the OCTA 50 and it drops me off at Katella and Harbor.

I'm about 20 miles east of Anaheim - in Corona. And the winds are intense here....if it's just for the fireworks, you might call ahead.....wouldn't surprise me if they were canceled for the night.

Man, its windy all over the southland today!! There are palm branches all over the place in my neighborhood (Ventura beach neighborhood). There is sand all over the driveway! Be safe, people.

I seem to remember the cut off being at 6 miles an hour. It's pretty calm right now, I'm about two miles from DL. It could happen.

Remember it's upper level winds that decide if RDCT is cancelled or not...

You'd barely be able to notice them even if you were standing on the roof of the Mickey & Friends Parking Structure.

Good luck with the fireworks; they're really something special. As PPLMatt said above, it's the high altitude winds that matter.

Ok, the wind was said to be from the north. Thats a big no no. They do not want the fallout from the shells and such to land to the south as that would be in the park. Ive seen the wind get a little bit strong during the show when its coming from the south. At that point, if its not enough to cancel the whole show, they just hold the stuff on the Main St. buildings that would launch from behind the crowd in the hub, reason being they do not want the fallout on guests. Also, if the wind is going so that the fallout would end up on the 5, they tend to cancel the show for slightly less wind that normal. We don't want some big chain reaction accident on the 5 cause of a stray shell bit slamming into a car going 70 mph, do we?

So, there are many a factors that go into if they cancel the show or not.

Oh, and most of the information is based off of my own observations. Really, just watch the show WAY too many times like I have and you will start to notice the little nuances that happen with certain conditions.
