Hhhhmmmm....record, that sounds familiar. Is that like an 8-track?
I don't care about Build-a-Bear anywhere but at Disneyland. We have so many good memories of making stuffed buddies for my daughters that we usually stop in to make one each time we're in town as a family. I like getting the little emails on their bear birthdays, too. We reminisce about the trips every time.
So basically you are looking for bitter people who want to piss and moan about a store?
You seem to have found the solution yourself...you don't like the store, you don't go to it, why hate on the store here? No one is forcing you to like it or visit it.
Haha, not that this site isn't full of "bitter people who want to piss and moan" gimme a break lol.
My feelings on Build-A-Bear? I like it, it's pretty cool. BUT, I have a hard time getting past the part that they basically ripped off the idea from Vermont Teddy Bear Co. (especially if you've been to the factory you will know) except the quality is not as good. The variety is nice though, almost a little too much. I was thinking, (and I know this is a bit cliched) wow, there are poor kids with no shoes, and yet they make Skechers for stuffed bears. Kinda puts things in perspective. But that's a bit tangent though. Bottom line, Build-A-Bear: cool, but ripoff of far superior Vermont Teddy Bear Co.

Yeah, when I was little I went to the Basic Brown Bear Factory in San Francisco, and it's been around for ages. Actually, the person who started Build A Bear tried to buy BBBF and was in negotiations with them for a while, during which she was exposed tot he entire trade and signed a confidentiality agreement, but then she gave them a really low buyout price and the deal didn't go through. Then she started BaB and BBBF sued her for breaking the confidentiality agreement (and obviously ripping them off).
I love the idea of making your own teddy bear, but I will only go to BBBF in San Fran, not to one of the 300 BaB stores. It just makes me sad that something that was once special and unique to a few family run businesses around the country is now super-franchised to the point of happy meal toys.
Not too say that no one should go there, not everyone can to SF just to make a teddy bear, but I know I sure will.
Personally I like it, I think it is fun to go in and pick out a bear, the outfit and then give it a name. It's much more fun then just going and buying a bear from Walmart. I have never been to any other company besides BAB so I couldn't say which one was better, and as for quality, I don't play with them so I can't say what they will hold up to. However I do only go and build one when I am somewhere special, like DTD or the St. Louis Zoo because if I just ran out to the local one every month they wouldn't be special or unique for me anymore.
Eh, Build a Bear's okay. I think I'd like it more if it wasn't so expensive!! Not worth it for the cost, IMO.
Good morning, son
In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
It was pain
Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...
