Disneyland Should Take A Cue From Howard Johnson (Webcams)
Every once in a while, during a regular workday, I take a moment to zen out by clicking over to the Monterey Bay Aquarium's webcams which you can view by clicking here: http://www.mbayaq.org/efc/cam_menu.asp
It's my virtual happy place. It puts me at ease to watch the waves roll in over the Portola Rocks for a minute or two.
The Howard Johnson hotel, as many of you know, has a webcam pointed in the general direction of the Matterhorn, which you can reposition if no one else is attempting to control it.
My workday typically begins at 5am. We often watch the ABC News, which will randomly once in a while cut to one of their stationary HD cams overlooking Sleeping Beauty's Castle or the Mark Twain. At 5-6am these are really gorgeous images.
Disneyland.com should incorporate into their website a series of webcams that one can look at the park live with. They could have one stationed in a window of the train depot looking down Main Street. And another where their HD cam is above the (former) gallery that overlooks the Rivers of America. Imagine taking a park webcam break and watching the Mark Twain roll in and out of port, with the live sounds of the steam whistle. Not only would this be a great form of escapism for those of us stuck in corporate office ennui, it would be a great form of advertising for the parks and entice people to go, much like those ABC News HD cam shots.
Could the person assigned to review this board please forward this idea to the appropriate department? Thank you kindly.

They also need one pointed at the hub, especially at noon on Sundays. Nuff said. ;)

Great Idea!!!! I often find myself looking at the webcams of the mountains during winter... can't wait to hit the slopes.
So why shouldn't DLR have some webcams. Of course they need to be sure to not show anything backstage... Don't want to ruin the magic. ;)

You should contact Disney directly through- https://secure.disney.go.com/disneyl...=ContactUsPage
That's the official site where you can submit comments or suggestions about differernt things.
Good idea about the webcams! And for those of you worried about "showing backstage" stuff, they could only have the cams on during the operating hours of the park. I wonder why ABC7 doesn't have their cam on the internet?... think it has something to do with security? I mean the HoJo cam is far enough away and you can't really see great details, even zoomed in, but "in-park" cams would show much more.
Re: Disneyland Should Take A Cue From Howard Johnson
yeah, its a great idea...shure would up the "hits" on the site!
Re: Disneyland Should Take A Cue From Howard Johnson
Even better- have a camera pointed at Main Street Station so us train fans can see what engines/consists are running!
Re: Disneyland Should Take A Cue From Howard Johnson (Webcams)
I think its a great idea. They would have to be set where you couldn't really see any face details for legal reasons, but I'd love it if they had some placed around different parts of the park.
Re: Disneyland Should Take A Cue From Howard Johnson (Webcams)
I really like your idea. I'm all for it since I live so far away. I'm always checking out the Hojo cam!
Re: Disneyland Should Take A Cue From Howard Johnson (Webcams)
Can't believe nobody's posted this yet, but Disney used to have a webcam on main street and decided to remove it. Can anyone else verify that?
Re: Disneyland Should Take A Cue From Howard Johnson (Webcams)
I think this idea could be great if it's used in a location that construction is going on. Imagine being able to click onto the cam while Carsland is being constructed.
I know, I know, this could take away some of the magic, and maybe reveal some of Disney's secrets, but the camera could always be shut off or switched over to another camera while the "inside" stuff was going on.
I remember when The Colosseum At Caesar's Palace was being built for Celine Dion being able to watch the construction of it going on via a webcam. It was amazing to watch that area go from nothing to the beautiful theatre it is today.

Actually, it was probably at WDW, but I'm pretty sure they had some up and running at some point 5 or more years ago.
Re: Disneyland Should Take A Cue From Howard Johnson (Webcams)
Can someone post the link to the HoJo cam? I'd like to check it out.

The controls are difficult to master at first, but it's easier than it was because the refresh rate has improved.
Re: Disneyland Should Take A Cue From Howard Johnson (Webcams)
When Disney advertises the park it's never shown as crowded. A webcam would give away their secret.
Re: Disneyland Should Take A Cue From Howard Johnson (Webcams)
A webcam showing the park could be good and bad, It would be good for the amount of hits it would get online no doubt, but for those using it to see how crowded the park is on a given day, could discourage visitors from visiting...
