What are they actually doing to Mulholland Madness? Just slapping a new name on it?

It probably won't but I'm hoping the new Walt Disney Story is more in the style of this book, refreshingly honest about a guarded icon.

No, it's staying as Goofy's flight school or something.

I got the impression that it's not replacing MM, just retheming it. So cars will look like planes, and the queue/cheap walls will be replaced by cartoony flight theming.

Also keep in mind, this is only temporary. This corner is still available for expansion, it's just a quick fix until a good idea/money to build it come along.

The only thing I don't think fits is the Little Mermaid ride. I can excuse Monsters Inc, A Bugs Land, and all sorts of quasi fits, but the Little Mermaid attraction takes place in a completely different body of water, the Atlantic. I think it'll be a decent attraction, just doesn't help the whole of the park.

The entrance in the concept art looks like a museum, maybe is an exposition about mermaids and then you entry to the world of ariel and friends.

I just read a quote from Rasulo about Walt arriving in California with "a cardboard suitcase in his hand and a head full of dreams."

When the new enterance opens, they could give each guest a cardboard suitcase full of promotional materials about the new changes . (It could even be part of the ongoing Decade of a Gazillion Dreams Celebration and include a prize of some sort .)

(BTW, I'm for the addition of Walt to DCA, see previous post )

Remi the superhero/artist beaver was so inspired by his visit to Disneyland that he sculpted a likeness of his head out of the petrified tree in Frontierland. Of course, immediately after this picture was taken, he used his powers to restore it to its natural state .

Re: So, the New Disney's California Adventure is supposed

I love these threads, they're hilarious.

People, there are some facts you keep missing. I'll spell it out for you:

1) This is Phase One. All of the announced work is Phase One of California Adventure. Phase One implies at least a Phase Two is coming. They're making changes, and then they'll make more until it's right, but I don't think ANYONE expects this series of changes will fix DCA, just start the process

2) California is no longer the unifying theme of this park, Walt Disney is. That's a wide subject. The Hollywood section is a tribute to the California Walt came to, just as Main Street is a tribute to the Marceline of Walt's childhood. It is not a retread of the same idea, it's two related ideas designed to ease you in to another world. It's a great idea.

3) The Golden State Area is like Frontierland or Adventureland, it's a section of park that is landscaped like wild California, just as Frontierland is set up like the wild west. All they need is some neat theming and a few more attractions and it will be excellent (I think this will be part of phase two).

4) Little Mermaid will be next to jumping jellyfish, Ariel's Grotto, and Triton's Carousel (Al said there'd be a lot of movement of Paradise Pier stuff. It will work as a self-contained area within the park (remember, the theme is Walt Disney, not California, it's okay to have this kind of land, just like Bug's land).

5) Carsland will be awesome, the rides sound good and the theming is actually there. This will be the biggest draw to DCA, trust me on this. This will be the most "otherworldly" area in the land.

6) Paradise Pier's rides and games are gaining character themes. Maliboomer is going because it offers nothing that can be flavored as Disney, and I bet the Stinger's going too. I also bet this is the area you have the best chance of finding characters in the entire park, in short, it's a more immersive experience combining entertainment of Walt's Era to the characters he created. So, Mickey Wheel makes perfect sense in this context.

7) World of Color may rival Fantasmic, so the days of mass exodus could end. Good, let's try to have this park hold it's own with DL.

In short, this overhaul, combined with upcoming phases of construction and expansion, will be the process that makes DCA into a partner with the park across the way. This is good, and going to get much better. They're trying to add Walt to this park, and that's what it needed the whole time it existed. It will never have all the history of Disneyland, but it will look and feel like a Disney park.

They would probably be made from cardboard recycled from the US through China and saturated with semi-toxic chemicals, which would leach out when exposed to the water rides.

Thanks, but there's enough cheesy stuff there although you do have to pay for it.

Re: So, the New Disney's California Adventure is supposed

I am one of those people who want Disney parks to be at their best and don't like much of what has happened in the last 15 years or so. Criticism when standards decline has a purpose and I don't shy from it. But criticism, when the company wants to do something really good? To what end? DCA was a thematic casserole to begin with and it will be one when all is said and done...but it will be a much tastier casserole, and I for one am very happy for that. This isn't just some halfheated attempt at improving the park...the designs are truly beautiful and there are the dollars to back them up. I hope those showing due appreciation are heard more loudly than the blind complainers.

Re: So, the New Disney's California Adventure is supposed

But don't you see what Disney management is trying to do here?

They're trying to latch onto the great positive feelings about Walt Disney, and make DCA "Walt's park". They want Walt Disney's name and history plastered all over the park, (as well as Walt's creation, Mickey), so that if there is any future criticism by the fan base (and there will be), it will seem like you're criticizing Walt himself.

The only problem is, it's not Walt's park.

Don't be fooled.
