    Question 5/5 or 7/17 ??? Which was "Bigger" ???

Now that it is late on 7/17, It seems disney Dumped way more effort into 5/5. With ALL the TV, News etc... It seems Disney gave 5/5 a higher priority.

We were there 5/5, and had a great time. I Wish we could have been there today also. So what do you think?

I would say the 5th was treated more highly by Disney.

Well, I think we all know that they rushed to get things together for the 17th, and that the 5th was planned out much more due to the media coverage. There was a much smaller media presence at the park today than there was the 4th and 5th. I'm going to guess that the majority of the general public did not realize that today was the official birthday, as evidenced by the fact that my non-disney friends had no idea. Disney very clearly marketed the 5th and the whole 05-05-05 thing as the big celebration. I also agree with the above post, the 17th was a whole lot more fun.

Just that i saw very little in the media about today. Kinda sad.

As i said, we were there on 5/5, over today mainly because 5/4 was our daughters first birthday, so we planned for that week instead of this. We were in the parks on 5/3-5/4-5/5. I LOVED 5/3 and 5/4 Place was mostly empty! And 5/5 being the big kick-off was insane, but we had a blast anyway.

They put more into the 5th, but you don't think that was on purpose? Think about it. July is generally a heavily "populated" time for DL. So they advertise the 5th as the kick off to get more people there THAT DAY as opposed to the pure madness that COULD HAVE wreaked havoc on them had they not had an earlier celebration. In all honestly, there are alot of people who thought May 5th was DL's bday!!!!

I totally understand it was for publicity for the upcoming summer season. Glad we were there then, wish we were there today...oh wait, it's after midnight......yesterday.

the 5th was all uber-media and who gives a s*** about the guests... who cares what they had on the 5th- none of us normal people could see it!

the 17th felt like it was for and about us, the guests! crowd control was beautiful and thanks to jumbotron screens everywhere, it was hard to miss anything! they even replayed the ceremony and other cool disneyland-related stuff several times throughout the day just incase you missed it or wanted to see it again!

7/17 was about US. And we loved them for it.

I know some people complained about the jumbotrons, but I'm terribly grateful, I thought it was a fantastic move!

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

I think 5/5 was "bigger", but 7/17 was more fun and more organized.

5/5 was a bigger pain. And the distinction others have made is true: 5/5 was for the media, 7/17 was for us, and that made the day so much more fun.

7/17 was the biggest sensation for regular guests, as it allowed them to have an extraordinary time with friends and other fans. More rides up and less media around is always a positive step in the fun direction!
