How busy is 12/31 at Disneyland?

It seems that I am going to be arriving in LA during midday on the 31st, and I was thinking about spending the night at Disneyland to celebrate the New Year. I have done this before at the Disney World properties, but never at Disneyland. Is the park completely packed, or would I probably be able to get in if I showed up at around 3:00-5:00pmish? Is there anything specific special that they do there?

    Thanks in advance!

    HAH...good luck.

It's totally packed that day. Reserve early if that's what you really want to do.

Here's a hint. It normally reaches capacity. Better be ready for huge crowds and get there early because it could fill up.

    Good luck and have fun!

I'm a CM and this will be my first time experiencing the Holiday season. I've been told by the management that it is 10x worse than the busiest summer day. It is packed, crazy and just plain nuts. It's for those that want to celebrate with a million other crazy people. Good-luck to you.

Not at 3 pm. You might get in at 2 pm....if you have a handstamp, and even that's not a sure thing.

12 pm should be alright, and I mean right at the Gate at 12 noon, which means you'd have to line up at the baggage check at 11. Huge lines.

It's the busiest day of the year. If you are into hanging out at Disneyland during New Year's, and it sounds like you are, then go for it. Don't expect to get on many rides, see many shows, or do anything other than wait for midnight.

Personally I don't think Disneyland is any fun on New Year's Eve, even as a place to celebrate New Year's.

You won't get in to Disneyland if you try walking up at 3:00pm on 12/31 and buying a ticket at the booth. Don't try buying tickets at your local Disney Store in advance either, that won't work.

The only way you are getting in to Disneyland on 12/31 is if you show up with a purchased ticket before Noon. And you shouldn't try to leave at any time after 12 Noon. Even with a hand stamp and a concierge hotel key at the Grand Californian, they were denying entry to people last year on the afternoon and evening of 12/31.

The good news is that you can get in to Disney's California Adventure. That's the theme park they built just south of Disneyland as an overflow lounge for people unlucky enough to get locked out of Disneyland on busy days.

DCA never gets full, even on New Years Eve. And they serve booze, too. You could go to DCA on New Years Eve, buy a Disneyland t-shirt at a DCA gift shop, and just lie and tell people you were in Disneyland for New Years.

I have to say, I went to DCA for New Years last year and it was IMMENSELY fun! Just check out all of the threads about it. We had a fan-freakin'-tastic time! It was VERY crowded, and DL was-as mentioned-at capacity. It's an intense night, but oh so worth the experience!

And yeah. DCA has the Cove Bar, winery, Karl Strauss beer cart, margarita stand, and beer at Pizza Oom Mow Mow and Taste Pilots. The alcohol is a plus, but is totally not necessary to have a great time. Just go. You'll have a fabulous nite.

New Year's Eve is the one day of the year that DCA is more fun than Disneyland.

I would go to DCA, get drunk, and watch the fireworks from Paradise Pier.

I love seeing Fantasmic!, but the real show is in the audience. I've never seen anyone come to blows, but I love watching people argue and threaten each other over the most trivial matters.

I was at DL for New Year's Eve in 2004. It rained up until early afternoon so the park wasn't very crowded. However, once the rains pretty much stopped for good, the crowds arrived...big time.
