Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

It's pretty cool. I think eventually PP will go from the most criticised, to the most celebrated area of DCA.

I dunno...until the ferris wheel and big rollercoaster are replaced with real disney e-tickets people will always complain that DCA is nothing more than a six flags carnival.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

I guess some people will still complain about that, but I think they'll fit in a lot better in their new context. Some people will always complain about the pier theme that's true. I think it will be far fewer though, and many people will love the new PP.

Yeah I'm so excited too. Just this ride alone will make DCA a much better park IMO.And we also are going to get Radiator Springs Racers, and a whole new entrance plaza! I'm so excited!

They could get more adventurous - I could even go for something "American" like Philly Cheesesteaks, complete with your choice of Cheez Whiz or real cheese, and 'With or Without" (onions). nIf the rolls are fresh from Boudin or the new DL Bakery, and everything else is made fresh, I'd put that up against French Provincial any day...

But the basic kitchens they have now are set up for fast food burgers and fries, pizza and sides, so if they want to serve fancier menu items they either have to rebuild the kitchens or do a lot of off-site prep and just 'heat and serve'.

As it is now, if they have all the replacement equipment ordered and in a nearby warehouse they can have the restaurant reopened in roughly two weeks.

McD's moves out all their "special" equipment (which isn't all that special) in a day or two, a day or two for a squad in rain slickers to attack the empty building with pressure washers and give it a thorough cleaning, and a few days to replace broken floor tiles and repair the inevitable wear and tear. Two or three days to move in regular cooking equipment, get it connected, and signed off by the Health Inspector.

Meanwhile, another crew has modified the signage, hung new menu boards, and installed new cash registers. Restock with supplies, a training day or two for the new crew to shake out production bugs, and 'away we go'...

Come on. Screamin and Sun Wheel are the best attractions on the Pier aside from Midway Mania. If you're going to attack an attraction in Paradise Pier, attack Mullholland Madness or Maliboomer.

There's not enough changes to move this area away from the hideous
non-themematic theme ill-chosen for an entire area.

Exactly! Those are the BIGGEST eyesores in all of DCA, and they are way too prominent from viewing outside of DCA. Give a POOR image of what Disney is suppose to stand for.

Even AFTER the Billion, you still have a coaster that looks like a coater, a ferris wheel that looks like a ferris wheel. Toy Story forced in a Victorian Pier Set???? Attractions tied to Little Mermaid that won't be in same area, and will provide a disjointed feel to the area. A beer garden in a Victorian Theme Pier area????????????? Next to a Goofy coaster?

Ugggggggg! It's still a mess!! and only two attractions with any appeal are Toy Story and Little Mermaid. Oh, and Toy Story isn't a part of the Billion Dollar budget. So that means one attraction for all of Paradise Pier. A theme that's still going to be a mess.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

i think you are misunderstanding the whole theme of a seaside pier. They never had a jointed theme to them. They were an energetic amusement area filled with a collection of of rides and architecture that had little in common. Not every attraction was themed similiar to the other and all the ride buildings were an eclectic collection of victorian to gothic architecture. Piers were a place were you could fine attractions based on sea creatures next to gothic gargoyles. Buildings that look like giant mountains next to victorian ferriswheels. That was what made them unique. Everything in these amusement parks was so diferent to eachother yet had somekind of connection to eachother because they brought out the child side of the guests.

That is exactly what WDI is recreating but at the same time removing the grittiness of the original piers and adding a Disney touch to it with recognizable characters and places.

Forget about midway games with generic toys instead add toys that guests now a days recognize. combine classic attractions and add a Disney twist to them. Use mythical creature of the sea with a Disney twist. Bring back old memmories of launching paper model planes on the beach and make it a fun little temporary coaster.

and basically prepare the area for future additions and enhancements

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

^Exactly I agree. Why is a roller coaster deemed poor theming and a "six flags carnival." Last I saw, paradise pier is themed to BE a carnival like they used to have in the old days. Only instead of a wooden roller coaster, they made it steel and made to look like a wooden roller coaster. The changes to PP is just gonna make it better. So as far as biggest eyesore at DCA, i completely disagree that the pier is the worst.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

I've always loved the pier. With the new additions and the building renovations, it will definitely be one of my favorite areas of the resort.

I understand the importance of theming, but I don't understand why everything has to have a really obvious theme. Not everything has to be Spaceland, Westernland, or Spookyland: this is Disneyland, not Mario Party 2.

Like New Orleans Square (which obviously is of higher quality than the pier), PP works for me as a beautiful place to just sit down and look at. However, because New Orleans Square was "Walt's vision" people won't question the pirate ride next to the haunted house, but they will question the Goofy ride next to a Victorian pier.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

I don't know why people don't like Screamin'. I think it is one of the West Coast's best roller coasters. I honestly like it more than a lot Magic Mountains coasters since it's long and just pure fun the whole way through and isn't so intense that you have a headache for the rest of the day. I think it fits in great to PP and brings in so much life to that part of the park. A lot of beach side theme parks had your big wooden roller coaster. CS is supposed to be like that, but with a twist. Just imagine how PP would look without Screamin'. You would have a good view of the convention center but thats about it.

According to Laughing Place:

Quote:
We have heard that Disney has applied for various government permits for the second Soarin' movie (tenatively a global theme) and that shooting could begin as early as this fall for a late '09 premiere at Disney's California Adventure and Epcot. There is currently no plan to build the attraction at either Tokyo Disney Resort or Disneyland Resort Paris.
