I just updated the Sun Wheel entry to reflect the info found on the Disneyland.com calendar. The Sun Wheel will now go down September 29 and won't be back until sometime in 2009.

Yep, even the calendar on Disneyland.com was updated to October 13. They are on top of things on that calendar! This is starting to get annoying! I just want to see it close and work start since it will be the beginnings of the next wave of retheming! Also, I'm curious as to how they are going to work on the wheel. I would guess the whole thing will be covered in scaffolding. With the water still in the Bay, it seems to make the most sense, but what do I know?

For the big stuff they'll probably have to drain the lagoon, i.e. the crane for putting on the Mickey head.

That's cool that they're putting it up on their calendar. That'll help people plan their vacations better. Not that the kids are pleading "Mommy! Daddy! I reallyreallyreally wanna ride the funwheel when we get there! Pleeeeeeeeeease?" But you get the idea. If they're confident to put exact dates for that, maybe they can put exact dates for refurbishments for other rides (note to self: I should really check and see if they already do that) instead of just the month they'll be completed.

Well, we are going in January and this definitely puts a little damper on things...Oh well, at least they are still planning on upgrading the wheel.

I suspect the delay is so that they can make an "event" of sorts out of it by sending it into refurbishment around the same time the Resort Preview Center opens, which was recently delayed to a rumored October 20 opening.

there are other reasons for the slight delays which are mostly due to crew timelines

It seems to me that Disney isn't really serious about fixing up DCA because they keep pushing projects back and cancelling others.

Not at all the reason. They're pushing it back only a little bit, so the schedules & everything match up you know. This re-do is happening, & Disney do care!

Anyone ever consider that they might need to drain the lagoon to do some of the work on the Sun Wheel. That might be another reason as to why it was pushed back.

Well, it makes sure there's more available in DCA for Disneyland's early closing on October 5th, so its not all bad.
